passed 30+ rally cars last Saturday in PA. Lambos, Ferraris, a couple Porsches, some BMWs, etc. Gold ___ Rally stickers on them (don't remember the full name). Definitely a few mil $ in hardware. One Lambo or Ferrari was wrapped in a polished stainless steel-looking wrap.

It was a nice lead-up to seeing well over 1,000 street rods from the 1920s - 1960s.

That car is a 78 shell with a later turbo engine and trans.. That car actually depressed on a rail lift in 1992 and broke my foot!

Tried to catch up (successfully, but weaving through the plug at >80 MPH at one point), looked and didn't recognize the driver, began to slow and saw an unmarked Mustang with obvious lights next to his rear-view mirror. I was already slowing so put on my signal and looked for a safe place for him to pull me over. He followed me for about 1/2 mile, then turned off on Shady Grove Road! Whew!!!!

I have a stranger story. We are in the middle of a house hunt, and we saw a small house for sale listed in our old hood in Crystal City maybe two months ago. Small house, but I knew it had a gigantic 2 car garage in the back. Basically no yard space. Still can't figure out how he was able to do that with the coverage rules.

Go to look at this huge two car garage, and what does the guy have, TWO red NA 944s, one of which I had seen tooling around my neighborhood. All those years renting on 24th street and this 944 guy was like 3 blocks away. Should have traded wrenching time....

Hey, I used to live directly across the street from this guy on the corner. The 911 is a SWB (66 IIRC)tub with super wide 935 style flares, at the time (1991-92) the car had a 2.7 in it and hadn't been run in 10 or so years then... He was a track side mechanic for the driver who I believe was Ted Holtz.

That was me, Wednesday late afternoon. Was the "hood" up? Ha! Old Man Hunt lives right at that corner of Woodley Place/Calvert. Hood was unlatched when I got there (just like at the autocross). 99% chance we got the issue fixed; just needed to tighten some things and do some adjusting. Thanks for the notice Martin - and thanks for helping pops with the 996 ignition a couple of weeks ago!

Nice 951/944 turbo at Abbeys Deli in Columbia MD today at lunch. I work in the area, and it was fun explaining to my WRX owning friend how balanced and smooth a 951/944 turbo is.
Car had a partially gutted interior, boost gauge, WB 02 gauge, and roll bar cage. Navy blue with black 'cup' wheels. Very nice car.

Peter, that is Jaguar's new 'Cayman Killer', the F-Type in the 'R' Coupe configuration. The ones I've seen on the road have been a bit gaudier looking giving me the feeling, like the new Corvette, that the designer couldn't resist sticking one more piece of bling on the car while the taste police weren't looking. Still, toned down in a nice gun metal or dark metallic color the lines eclipse the blinky bits. It apparently doesn't stand up to a comparison with the Cayman except in the sound department.

Never driven one but its just not possible. Its the same ZF 8HP in the Chrysler 300. It has a torque converter. My wife had a boxster w/ the ZF 5HP tiptronic. Strangely enough, I read that the Acura TLX (new model) has an 8 speed dual-clutch transmission, WITH a torque converter - but that the torque converter is mainly there to help pull away from a standstill without the lurch that is common to the dual clutch...

On the way home last nite, around 5:00PM, on Clara Barton Pkwy after Chain Bridge was suddenly blocked, and from about 20 cars back, I watched as a tow truck winches a red car out of the woods. I wasn't able to get a pic because of how other cars and the tow truck were situated. But the car pulled from the trees was a red 911 Slant Nose. Pretty looking car, with no obvious damage. I'm guessing driver had pulled off the road earlier, but misjudged the grassy incline and got stuck. Here's a pic of the location from Google Maps:

Took me a minute to figure out where that was taken. Constitution looking back toward 14th St bridge. I don't see the Yates building (nee Auditors Building) from that perspective very often. Interesting line of buildings, from civil war-era to 1990s (Holocaust) to '30s/ '40s (Treasury)

I'm not sure what my favorite all time car is but this is in the top 5 and really the only Ferrari I lust for. My first ride around any track in any car was in a F40 at Summit when they were giving rides around for charity back in 94 or so. There was no passing allowed but I was last in line and all the other cars had come in so I got a ride in one w/ open track. :shock:

This is from the CR and there were plenty of other cool cars (besides the normal insane race cars) incl some really nice 356s and a 991 GT3 but only took pics of this.

Mike Levitas's 991 GT3 was pretty amazing and incredible performance, slightly more affordable than the F car, did not really get a chance to get a good look at it or hear the Ferrari music.
