Every CCW permit I know of bans alcohol use while carrying. Statistically they are some of the most law abiding people in the country. Statistics also refute your last statement. (Edit: I've never had a CCW. But I applaud people in free states that accept the great responsibility that do.)

But back to the vid. I saw this earlier. Pure win. I have been in shady parts of Brazil for work and was worried about this sort of thing. I stood out. Great place, nice people, and excellent food (meat!) but the crime is REALLY high in places.

You are so right, that would so amazing! We can each be the jury, judge and executioner on the spot... no more crime. We would save so much money..., no need for police, prisons, courts, etc. So, if someone cuts you off in traffic, easy solution, or God forbid chaning lanes without a signal; yeeehaah!

Your right ... There are idiots everywhere. So lets take it to the extreme. No more guns ... set a curfew to keep crime in the cities down. Im a fan of CCW. But you can go to the "hood" and see how well illegal guns are being controlled. I would feel 100% better knowing that I was carrying encase something ever happened. Not even in the "hood" but out in the real world where any lunatic can snap in public.

I had my business in the country for many years. It was 25 minutes from the nearest police (I timed them a few times with the 911 calls). I had to draw a gun on people a few times. I then got my gun permit. It then makes you very careful about how you behave in public. I was getting gas in Rockville about 2 in the morning and witnessed a robbery (non-violent) of the gas attendant 3 feet from me. I was glad I didn't draw the gun.

People who go the trouble of getting a CCP are not "everyone" as stated in the thread. I was commenting on Everyone not the filtered few that get CCP. Stats on overall ownership for PD are scary. loss of weapon and improper use are well above any form of self defense. The stats point to hurt being more likely than help. Drinking is a very common adjunct to the hurt.

BTW I had one of the first CCPs issued in FFC and am not a crazy gun grabber at all costs type.

CCW way too restrictive in Maryland, but way too lenient in other states (Ohio and Florida come to mind, likely Virginia too but I don't know the facts there). I have been working hard on identity proofing issues for healthcare IT, and have gotten involved in NSTIC, the national (not just healthcare) process that is being explored. It would make good sense to have anyone applying for CCW to undergo NIST Level 4 identity assurance (NIST 800-63-2--I'd post a link but when I tried to get to the page it showed "NIST Closed"...). That would probably weed out >50% of the issues in the lenient states.

Frankly, even though I'm a "liberal" I'd like to see CCW applied more "liberally", but need to make sure it's the right people (like VG and, despite his attempts to seem less controlled than he really is, TR, and definitely based on his comment above, Matt). And put a bit of sense into it - such as CCW is not valid in courthouses or schools (perhaps a more special permit for certain types of facilities).

x3. Nothing more than a typical event, with some drivers, drovers and boneheads. You can usually spot the boneheads early enough, and do what you can to stay out of the way. Plus, as mentioned in the RL thread, the grid would have resorted by laptimes in subsequent sessions, so should not have been a problem anymore starting behind those slower cars.

One of the Rennlist responses was very thoughtful and pointed out that a spec series like SPB has a way of creating more aggression, overdriving and contact. I do not know if that explains loony driving in a practice session. They don't use lap times in practice for any particular purpose, do they? If they use practice times to grid qualifying, I could see an explanation for the overdriving.

HoodPin

.... If they use practice times to grid qualifying, I could see an explanation for the overdriving.

Typical PCA CR uses the prior session's lap times to grid cars, including practice sessions. First session of the weekend tends to be the only free for all. Though sometimes they may use the "official" qualifying session times to grid all the races. And sometimes, like for an Enduro, they may use best lap time from the entire weekend to grid, especially if they're combining cars that were previously in separate Spring groups (Often times you'll see 3 Sprint groups and 2 Enduro groups).

Then that explains a lot -- doesn't justify it, just explains it. When the cars are spec like SPB your starting position means a lot especially in a shorter (20 min) race.

Saw the same thing in Rockville some years ago, looked like a teenager got stuck on the tracks w/red light ahead and gate on back. Road was plentiful wide and double track so lots of room to move out of way... But he didn't, though his 5 friends got out of the car and ran!!! Train spun car completely around and damm near hit mine (was in the opposite lane. I'd started out of my car to tell him to move but to late. Fear and lack of common sense is tough combo in most situations.

Hahaha. That reminded of a visit years ago to a friend's house near Annapolis. Just before exiting Rt 50, our minivan was bounced about over a signficant pothole. When I got to my friend's house, we noticed one of the hubcaps had come off. So he and I drove back to the scene of the pothole, thinking the hubcap probably came off there. We pulled well off the road, and started walking around in the tall grass. Discovered upwards of 50 hub caps strewn about. Didn't find my original one, but found a close enough match. :p

A Chinese man was treated in a hospital after getting a beer bottle and coat hanger stuck in his rectum.

The man told doctors he had stomach pains but no idea what was causing them.

An x-ray showed doctors the source of the pain.

The man admitted to inserting the bottle, but after it got stuck, he straightened the coat hanger and inserted it in an attempt to retrieve the bottle.

Doctors were able to remove the objects, but the man was left with serious internal injuries and was kept at the hospital to recover.

He purchased a 2 year old Lexus and the following day drove it to the office to show it off.

That evening after work he went home, picked up the dog and went to the gym. He left the dog in the car for about 15 minutes while he went inside to take care of something.

When he came out he discovered that his nice Pit Bull had pulled the entire right side of the dash off the car! EVERYTHING from the steering column to the right side of the car as far as dash was concerned was GONE!

Dash, padding, wiring, heater ducts, glove box. All were chewed up and in pieces spread all over the interior of the car.

Wow.....

Scary to think the world is falling apart beneath our feet. I wonder if they'll be able to recover the cars.

Sinkhole Opens Up In National Corvette Museum, Swallows Eight Cars

A 40-foot wide hole swallowed eight classic Corvettes
Posted: Feb 12, 2014

A 40-foot wide, 25-30-foot deep sinkhole opened up inside the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky. early Wednesday morning, swallowing eight classic sports cars.

Museum officials said the hole was discovered when motion sensors activated around 5:45 a.m. The museum usually maintains live feeds of the of the floor so enthusiasts can view the cars on display, but cameras in the area where the sinkhole appeared have been down.

A 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil," both on loan from General Motors, were among the cars that fell into the sinkhole. The museum owned the other affected Corvettes, which included a 1963 Corvette, a 1984 PPG Pace Car and the one millionth Corvette ever produced.

Museum officials, worried about the structural integrity of the building, removed an irreplaceable 1983 Corvette from the premises, according to The Courier-Journal.

It's unclear how much damage the cars have suffered as a result of the sinkhole. The museum is closed Wednesday while a structural engineer assesses the damage.

What a loss. Beautiful museum. Went there on the way back from Mid-Ohio in 2006. There was a classic car lot right across the street. Didn't go in because I would have bent my wallet.

The hard to see "Sweet and Low" package on the tailgate is what makes it complete. I wonder what the guys at your local dump would say when you came rolling up in that thing loaded with scrap. :)
