Not a lost art, just bred out of the gene pool by Darwinism at an early age. Good riddance to that kid's virility I hope. Oh and if I were on the jury, the teacher didn't plug in the cord, therefore he's innocent.

Note the following statement in the article: "The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois' suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage"
I think the facts that he connected his nipples to an electrical power source proves conclusively that he was brain damaged BEFORE the incident.
And I don't believe in warning people about obvious dangers - we have a word for these - evolution.

Why is it that the press feels it has an OBLIGATION to reveal things like this. I loved guessing (of course, 100% wrong) about the identity of the Stig. It's like when they revealed the location of the $500 Million (taxpayer dollars) underground bunker at The Greenbriar. Fail for HarperCollins.

Not sure there was a win. The captain of the boat -- seen falling overboard -- died. His wife took him off life support a few days ago.
He was a very experienced charter captain who simply chose a bad wave to ride into Jupiter Inlet (in FL), and the wave collapsed (broke) beneath his boat.
The common approach to dealing with breaking waves as you enter an inlet is to simply ride the back of the wave in front of you (and not climb up it or allow the wave behind you to catch up to you). By all accounts, that's what he was doing when this wave did something very unusual. Sad situation.

Bicycling FAIL.
http://www.wtop.com/?nid=456&sid=2049532
Some days you should just stay home.......
When I was a GI Fellow at Temple, an uninsured, drunk man was riding a bicycle down the middle of Broad Street at 2 AM, swerved, and hit a car. He was hospitalized for months (for free), did "reasonably well" despite his multiple injuries, and was discharged. He then sued the driver, the city, the hospital, every person whose name was on his chart, AND...the Schwinn Bicycle company, for not having a label on the bicycle warning against riding drunk. The kicker is that he'd stolen the bicycle! I don't know if any of the plaintiffs settled, but I know the hospital vowed to use all their resources to fight it.
Why would anyone settle with him over that ??:?
Because he had no resources, so was not going to pay your court costs if he lost. Other than the bad precedent, cheaper to pay a couple of thousand dollars than to go to trial. Doctors have been long fighting with malpractice insurance companies not to settle even for low dollars because we're the ones who have to live with what counts as a malpractice suit decided against us.

But......less so if "loser always pays courts costs and fees for BOTH sides."
That's why frivolous court cases are much fewer in England, which was John's point.
Yeah, well the LAWYER doesn't pay for anything (they just don't paid their contingency fee). And I've seen cases (where I was an expert witness) where the plaintiff certainly lost, but the court basically awarded some money for the attorney to get paid (something about sharks sticking together, remembering that judges are also lawyers).

Far be it from me to defend an ambulance chaser, but they only take a case if they think they can get paid. A case has value if the lawyer thinks he can win it, or if he thinks it'll be enough of a nuisance that the other side will settle for a decent amount.
So, even if the case is a real loser, would the insurance company for the hospital/Schwinn, etc. pay $20,000 in legal fees to defend/win the case, or pay $10,000 to the dirtbag ($3,333 of which goes to his dirtbag lawyer). Ironically, the cost that creates the opportunity for the dirtbag lawyer is the cost of the insurance company's lawyer!

Probably don't have to worry about those downed power lines as the tower had just crushed the source...

I've had two cars "get away" from me. My dad's 62 Belvedere with that stupid push button transmission that had two steps to put it in park - press the neutral button and slide the park lever down (I forgot the second step several times but managed to catch the car most of the time) Did lose it once and it ran over the mail box.
Then our integra got away from me when I was pushing it out of our garage. It went over a curb and into a light poll.

One of my Vanpools years ago, while being driven by someone who kept it in his neighborhood, was leaving for work one morning. While still in his neighborhood he notices a little BMW starts backing out of its driveway. The vanpool toots its horn, and the driver expects the BMW will hear/see him and stop. But as he gets closer, he suddenly realizes there's no one in the BMW's driver's seat. The BMW was gradually picking up speed, and the vanpool tried to stop, but ended up getting hit in the front left bumper/fender. Considerably more damage to the BMW. He then sees the BMW owner run out of the garage. Fortunately the BMW owner knew he had screwed up and gladly paid for the van's damages.

I'm not even sure they were using front straps. My guess is the car's speed exceeded the capabilities of the dyno rollers, and being a fancy AWD, it may have detected some wheel slippage and transferred power asymetrically in the drivetrain, causing it to veer to the left. But what the hell do I know.....:p It was still fun to watch.

Super Eggnog
I told my father of a little trick I like to do with eggnog, 160 proof Stroh rum, and nutmeg. He liked the the idea and tried it himself. Here is his note to me:
"Well, I got a bottle of Publix eggnog today. Theirs is really good. Put a tbsp of Strohs 160 proof on top of a cup of it and, with a little trouble, got it aflame. Then sprinkled in the nutmeg and it sparkled. Then I stirred it to put out the fire. It wouldn't go out, and because I had filled the glass just about to the top, it spilled all over the counter. The fire went with it so now the counter was afire! I blew on it which just made it worse. Mom ran for the wet washcloth, but by then I guess all the alcohol was burnt up, and the flames went out. Since most of the alcohol had burned up, the eggnog lost most of its punch. No, there wasn't a burnt hole in the counter."

Really surprised by this x-mass card. Not because the kids have guns, but rather because now everyone knows that the kids have guns!!!111!!!
Giving up the advantage of surprise is not a force multiplyer

Yeah, but who did they send that card to anyway? :)
I'm not sure how I feel about kids and gun handling/using; but I'm not a fan of them posing Charlie's Angel's style.

If that's bad... I went out drinking one night with my spyder. Came out several hours later to discover 3" of snow in the cockpit. Drove in top down in 40 degree weather, drove back in 30 degree weather, top down. The wind blew out the snow. Ahh, to be 20 again.

Depends upon where it was taken. The tug hill plateau in February would love weeather like that. Usually the snow is 4-5x that deep.
