I don't lock mine since around 20 years ago. I had a theif that couldn't get in the van by usual theif means , drive his car /truck into the side of my van to smash the sliding door open, then steal the tools/stereo, etc..then not only was my stuff gone, I had to deal with the smashed door too.
Now I usually don't carry anything valuable in the car if I can help it. I figure it's better to deal with the just stuff missing than the carnage from the asshat theif. Locked doors on a car only keep honest thieves out.

Yeah baby ripped the guts right out of her! If he’d made for open water it would have gone down in minutes. Bet hundreds would have gone down with her too before they could launch the life boats! Got to figure the captain and some of the crew will do some serious time for this screw up…
I can't understand why they had such problems with life rafts... How cold was the water? Looks like anyone who could swim could have made the 50 yards to shore. :?

Did you see the pics? Started to list almost immediately. Can’t launce life boats on the high side (they rely on gravity), don’t want to launch on low side as ship will roll over on them. And even if you did how will the passengers get in when the boat is swinging from the davits.
From the pics it looks like he ripped a sizable gash in the side, below the water line AND ran her up on the rocks. Rocks cause initial list, water rushing in made it worst. Also, looks like it happened at high tide so as tide reseeds the list would become more pronounced. Cruise ships are really tall, top heavy craft with little draft. Shallow draft allows them to get into smaller ports without using boats to ferry passengers back and fourth. Looks like at some point it just toppled over on to its side. Lucky it was on the land side of the shoal and wasn’t very deep or it might have turned turtle with lots more lose of life

I can't understand why they had such problems with life rafts.
Look at the picture to see why they had problems with the life rafts. On one side, the life rafts were down in the water. On the other side, they couldn't get the life boats to the edge of the cruise ship to reach the water. The thing was on its side when people needed to bail off of it.
How cold was the water? Looks like anyone who could swim could have made the 50 yards to shore. :?
I think you're overestimating the average cruise-goer's ability to swim in open water at night in the middle of winter while their ship sinks. Giglio Island is about the same latitude as Boston, so I'm guessing the water was pretty cold. Getting up to a deck that was still above water and then off the ship was no small feat either, I'd imagine.
The star of this FAIL is definitely the Captain, who says he "tripped and fell into a life boat (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/italy/9022170/Costa-Concordia-captain-says-he-tripped-and-fell-into-lifeboat.html)" which is why he abandoned ship before so many of the passengers and crew.:bang:
My point was the ship was so close to shore they could have ferried people back and forth, and many could have swum the short distance (provided the seas weren't too heavy). I can't believe the captain left the ship so quickly.

My quick online research shows the Meditereanean to currently be about 14 C or 75 F which is not exactly snorkeling temps. Also, consider that many of the decks are several stories above sea level. Ever jump 30' into the water?

LONDON – Chris Whelpdale, a winger with English fourth-tier side suffered a painful and unusual injury in a 2-1 win at Crawley Monday when a tackle split open his scrotum, AFP reported.
"It's a horrific injury," Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler told the BBC. "He's going to be very sore, and I'm sure his wife won't be too happy either."
Whelpdale required five stitches to close the injury, which occurred during a high tackle by David Hunt, The Sun reported.
The 22-year-old Whelpdale, who joined the (http://dorkiphus.net/porsche/#) from Peterborough in July, has scored four goals in 22 games.

Hello group
I have a 1978 SC and i just had the turbo 964 body kit from AIR done on the car and after taking it to the mechanic shop we were not able to jack the car up, as the car is extremly low and the hole for the jack plate is now covered up.
I need to get an exact location of where the hole is, so i can make a hole in the new side skirt.
We bolted the side skirts and painted over them, so we can not take them off to see where the holes are.
You help would be appreciated in the measurment of the location of the jack plate hole. SmileWavySmileWavySmileWavy

I thought about referring to how the Japs cut the HP on the cars they export (rather than more HP for England), but I thought it would be just too likely people would think I missed both the mirror and the fact that they're manufactured in Germany (and France, too, it turns out). Well except for the ticket and court summons.:roll:
She was also weaving between lanes. It wasn't a warning - it was a $90 fine, but it was certainly less than the typical misdemeanor driving charge, immediate impounding of the car, and order-of-magnitude larger fine. She was "rushing to a meeting."

She received a warning for the speeding portion of it
Generally 50+ mph over speed limit is an immediate trip to jail. Not "oh, well since you were running late to a meeting we understand -- just try not to exceed 55 again, please!" The police do not normally let people off with a warning for an infraction like that, unless kneepads are involved.

precedence of the divide and (implied) multiply.
6/(2x(2+1)) = 1 (do the multiply before the divide)
versus
(6/2)(2+1) = 9 do the multiply after the divide.
The precedence is ambiguous as entered, and each calculator has a different rule.

BODMAS rule. I think this was grade school stuff, but its still fundamental.
Brackets [parens] resolved first
Orders - powers and roots
Divide Multiply - equal weight, left to right
Add Subtract - equal weight, left to right
Applying BODMAS: (6/2)(2+1) = 9
Just for grins I tried this in Excel which obviously applies the BODMAS operational order. Correct answer
