Default 996 Radio fun...

The stock radio in my 996 is probably about 30% more complicated then it needs to be. When you change from one band to another it has a nice display that comes on for a couple of seconds before it actually changes. Funny things happen if you begin to change one thing, then switch before it has a chance to finish. For example:

Turn your radio on and listen to an AM station. Then press BD to select FM1 then before it actually switches over press TP (Its the traffic button).
Your display now is now playing a random AM station and only showing two digits. Next press the scan button and it will start counting..

If you switch to AM or FM at that point the radio goes back to normal mode.

I have hit different combinations of buttons by accident in the past and had other things happen, but this one I remembered.

It takes advanced thinkers to operate Porsches. I suggest you bring along a 10 year old to show you how it's done.

The luxuries of the new breed seems to be a little too much for me even on my car which I bought with no extra goodies.

Once you figure the radio out, its not that bad. I was just amazed at how poorly they had engineered the electronics.. Whatever happened to Blaupunkt? They made slightly less confusing but really high quality stuff....

Unfortunately Blaupunkt is far for what it used to be. For a couple of years now I've resorted to Alpine units..

Blaupunkt used to be the sh*t back in the day, but they seem to have gone toward the lower end of the consumer market in recent years, competing with the Clarion and JVCs. Anyone bought a Blaupunkt recently and can chime in on this? I'd like to get a new CD player for my car soon, and Blaupunkt always looks *right*. But if they are selling crap now, I'll just stay away.
