ummmm.... that will be my NOISY bottom end
Janet's new CTS is a great car [not your daddy's caddy - tight and quick] but I wince every time we start it cold. Seems to take up to five seconds for oil pressure to build up around the crank and rod bearings. The dry, clanking, no oil sound is just plain scary!! The dealer is still researching the problem. Given I was cleaning out the garage today, taking a break to call Pat Goss seemed a good idea.

Tony,
We were reading your posting, and our son (the Ford engineer) was sitting here, and said "He should call Adam, he designed that lubrication system, and it's supposed to be the best that GM has." So...he'll be here for the week, give us a call. Adam is his friend (GM engineer), and he figures if there is something wrong, Adam should know about it. |

Who's your dealer?
I bought a 98 STS used from the dealer in Tysons. It had 34K on the ticker. They were great about all my post purchase issues and I rode a branbd new cadi every time it was in the shop. I noticed what seemed like high oil consumption after changing the oil. They told me to double check and that the capacities written in the owners manual were a quart short. They changed the oil for me and took a sample to test. They asked me to record how much oil i put in it for the next several thousand miles. When I returned after the test they wanted to hold the car for a few further tests. I almost fell off my chair when they called me back and told me that the factor agreed to replace the engine! They didn't just replace the block but everything including the dipstick. I think they are really trying hard to win their customers back from the competition. All I know is they exceeded my expectations. I have more recently taken my car to Jim Coleman neat Monkey Mall. Not the same experience there. I always end up with an econobox because the cadi loner is always already taken. I guess thay may only have one or 2. So in my case the dealer really did make the difference. Good luck!
