I know this sounds silly/stupid (take your pick) but how do you remove the radio from a 964 dash? I've removed/replaced radios in all sorts of vehicles in the past but this one has me stumped. Of course, I'm a bit tentative -- not wanting to destroy the dash. Any tips? It's a '93 C2. (I got an early Father's Day present.)

If it was anything like mine, there are two holes on either side. You need a set of special tools to jam in there and it will release the catches inside. The radio just pulls out after that. The tools usually come with a Blaupunkt radio. I have a set I can lend.

thanks for the offer of the loan of the tools, but I have a set. This radio -- which came in the car, something called "Legacy" CD-AM/FM -- doesn't have the holes you describe. Also has a detachable face, which seems to complicate matters. Sorry me should've mentioned all this in the original post.

With all newer radios there should be a slot to slide in "keys" to unlacth the radio from the mounting cage. Sometimes you have to pull off the radio trim ring to see where the keys slide into.

To wrap up this thread, I had the radio replaced today at a Circuit City. Cost $95 (40 minutes) (including $3.99 for "shop supplies." Geez.). I had tried removing the old radio with the installation doo-hickeys that came with the new radio. The installer said those were to short to work with the old radio. He had to use some longer ones (noted they were from a Kenwood), although he pretty much mangled the bracket into which the old radio slid. Luckily, the new radio (a Blaukpunkt Montreal, FWIW) came with a new bracket. Great sounds, and now there are even buttons on the radio with which to select radio stations. What a concept.

I hope you have better luck with your Blaupunkt. Mine was a closeout at Crutchfield, like $150. Half the time when I hit a bump the face falls off because it doesn't clip in well. The other half, the radio skips!

Does anyone still have those special tools for the porsche radio I could borrow for about 2 minutes? I just got a used CDR-220. I looked at it, and realized I don't want to mangle my dash or the face plate. Figure I'll wait to either get tools, or check the dealerships.
