I will be needing a new clutch pretty soon as the pedal is becoming more stiff as the miles fly buy. I am wondering what tools would I need, what clutch kit to get and what other things should be replaced (seals etc)while the engine is dropped?
And of course, who can help and whose house can I impose on? I live in an apartment so doing it here is a no go. This also gives me a chance to meet a lot of you since I am new to the boards. Of course I will supply the grinds and brew and plenty of laughs since this is my first 911 (previous water pumper with a 944). The date will be up to whom ever offers their garage as a sacrifice to the clutch gods. Sam

Sam, check with Richard Leschander (aka Rick Lee on this forum) regarding the clutch kit and other good things to do while you're in there. He did a G-50 clutch r&r on his Carrera. Wayne from Pelican Parts makes a number of while you're in there suggestions in his book, "101 Projects for your Porsche 911." If you don't have this book, you need to get it. His suggestions are: replace oil pressure switch, oil thermostat o-ring, oil breather hoses, clutch and flywheel seal, oil cooler seals, and pulley seal.Wayne's book is also pretty good for letting you know what special tools you'll need. Note that we have a forum on this website for tools needed or available to borrow.
I will be available to help, as long as you don't plan to do this on the following dates: Sunday - 9/28 (NoVA fun run), Sat/Sun - 10/4-5 (PCA club race), or Sat/Sun - 10/11-12 (PCA High Perf Driving Clinic). |

Stiff sounds more like the very common bad fork bearings. Is the clutch slipping?
The Taj is down for a floor seal then I am on to the club race and after that I bet the wife pops a load of work on me (aprox 6 to 8 lb worth) We might be able to have a pull it/fixit/putit party but it would have to be late Oct or early Nov at best.

Clutch isn't slipping so it probably is the fork bearings. All parts have been ordered (including all of the recommended stuff to so "while you're in there". ) I will try and figure out a time.

I am rebuilding my engine and decided to replace the main shaft seal on the transmission based on Wayne's recommendation in his book.
I ordered the seal but no one mentioned that there is an o-ring on the guide tube that should be replaced. There is a trick to getting the tube out using a bent piece of heavy wire. It's shown in Bently's book. I have an 83SC with the 915 transmission.
