Cut and dry

no problems at all, with seal. some pelicanheads removed seal

But the only reason I bought them is for the 'CITY LIGHT' option

No fast drving for me, for what I here/read/lurk , Jim drives faster than me

Default What kind of H-4's

Did you go with the Hella's or the Bosch? I could see how the Bosch could be painful, the Hella's look like a drop in (at least for my car).

I upgraded my truck to Hella H4 with Euro Spec lenses (off road use only...). I followed proceedures like in the below link.

http://www.autooptiks.com/aiming.html

I brought a tape measure, chalk and a screw driver and had at it. Turned out perfect.

The Hella's are amazing. I could adjust the up and down by as little as 1/4 inch. Awesome pattern, and excellent lighting even with 55/60 bulbs.

If I upgrade my headlights on the car, I will definetly go to the same type of Hella's.

Lots of info on line for installing the relays to the battery and such as well.

Default H-4 adjust

I did a custom adjustment because I run 130/100w Narva bulbs.. long story.. but if your running the DOT legal bulbs you got a lot of slack to work with.. maybe pay attention to a dark curve and tweak them..
not suggesting that you should be DOT illegal and toast the retinas of slow left lane pigs w/a high flash... but 100w on low beam is doable because the 911 headlights are low to the ground.. and a SUV couldn't do 100w on low..

Gordo, thanks for the link. I adjusted the 73E's new eyeballs. I took her out for a spin tonight and it sure is a nice upgrade from the original DOT headlights.

The H4's that I installed were Bosch units. They were given to me by the PO of the 73E and I was just getting around to installing them. I sure hope I don't have to muck with them for a long, long time.

Pardon the stupid question, but is there an easy way to tell if your car has H2's or H4's?

Keith, I'm pretty sure your car has H5s. I took a look at your lights this morning when I was giving your car a good looking over in the bay at Vu's shop. H5s would have been the factory lamp for your car, and it looks like yours is as original a 1989 model as you could ever find.

The H4s are an upgrade from the H5s, despite the numbering and prices that might suggest the opposite. If you don't want to replace them, you might find you can improve the light output of your H5s by taking out the lamp housing and cleaning them. The H5s have a tendency to cloud up. I think Wayne's 101 Projects book on PP has a section on the H4 upgrade.

Keith, I'm not familiar with H2's. If I'm not mistaken, the H4's say H4 on the glass lense.

Bill,

It was nice meeting you and the rest of the crew at the tech session. I have Wayne's book, and I'll see if I can clean them, that's a great idea, thanks.

Do you think there's a big enough difference to justify the price/effort should I decide to upgrade from H5's to H4's?

Yes, the difference is big enough to justify the cost. Besides, you can get a few bucks for your H5's on eBay. H4's are one of the best upgrades I've done.

Default light upgrade

Keith,
I will second Richard's comments. However, I upgraded from H-1s to H-4s. the install was pretty easy. I bought mine from Vertex as a kit (H-4 light assemblies with trim rings, and bulbs) for around $235.00 to my door. I shopped around and that seems to be the best deal going. The trim rings you will have to paint yourself. By the way, beautiful car!
