I installed the GHL’s last night. They sound pretty good and are not too loud. Not much louder than stock at low rpms, which I like. Noticeably louder at about 4500 rpms. I hope they stay this way and don’t get louder as time passes. The install went pretty easy. Plan on 1 ½ hours if you buy new tips and about double that if you use you old tips. I decided to use my stock tips since I wasn’t sure I would like the GHL 4 inch ovals, which was a bad call on my part. I had a hard time with these old tips. Upon inspection, I noticed the flanges of the stock mufflers are poor compared to the flanges on the GHL’s. This caused problems with fitting and alignment of the old tips to the GHL’s. Fitting was cured by a ball peen hammer and lots of patience to reshape the flare on the old tips…alignment still could be better. Anybody considering the upgrade that has an early 99 996 may want to consider buying new tips. I think the mufflers and tips both changed on later model 996’s.

Don't you mean fitting was cured by the use of a BFH and a few words of encouragement!!
