Default Engine drop last night...

Had a stealth Dorki engine drop last night to get my head stud fixed (with SSI's and a few other goodies). This was a cinch and we even did it in a one-car garage. Only two of my photos came out. Harlequin has some more.

Pari, you may not believe this, but Jim almost matches your smack talk, so I got my does of it last night. Too many reasons to list, but let's just say that the four of us, the rear of my car, a drivetrain and tools were a bit cramped in a one-car garage.

Glad to see you have it out of the car and on a stand. Who's the lucky one that gets to tear it down to fix the stud? It shouldn't take long to fix. I assume you are going to replace all the studs while you are at it.

Did you ID the broken offender as steel or dilivar?

Do I detect new cams going in? Maybe some JE's while its apart? Don't let us down man!

So, what do two smack talking SC brothers talk about?

[1] How fast they snapped head studs since they were last checked?

[2] How many track miles they have under their belt with broken head studs?

[3] How few studs are actually holding the engine together?

[4] How any times they were lapped by MFI cars?

Sorry, I'm a hoser, I know. But I couldn't resist. :P

Jamie, the offending stud did not stick to a magnet, so I assume it's Dilivar. 964 cam grind is on my mind, but only if p&c's are ok and I don't have to spring for another set. I can't make this anymore of a cash aligator project than it already is. BTW, my exhaust is now for sale. I didn't have time to take photos and won't have time to deal with it for the rest of the month. But $500 gets a pretty new and shiny stainless GHL one-in, one-out with a same condition Fabspeed Euro pre-muffler with O2 bung.

Jim, I continue to be amazed that I get the gratuitous mods award over your taking a perfect car and doubling the money you had into it with more mods.

So true Jim. ROFLMA!

Rick, its only a few hundred bucks to regrind the cams. Call John, Camgrinder on Pelican, and talk to him. He knows! I am pretty sure he can regrind that on an SC core. Of course, then you have to refinish the rocker faces. DIY with some sandpaper to break the surface. Its been done before.

I am just living vicariously through you and Jim right now. I have the 98mm RSR PC set and Mod-S cams with new rockers on the shelf. Its killing me to not be tearing down my 3.0 to install them. Oh the horrors! I have to finish my kitchen first. Anyone want to help me chip out the existing tile floors? It will be in the 70's all weekend here in TX!

Actually, I am waiting for the right 3.0 or 3.2 donor to build a new engine.

Jamie, Steve Timmins still has my old 3.2 and hasn't touched it since I dropped it off a few years ago. He'd probably let it go pretty cheap.

OH really!!! Can you say hot 3.4 with EFI? HMM this might get me in trouble. I guess I need to give him a call. you had the normal valve guide/ring?/oil consumption issues right?

RL

Your old 3.2 is screaming to come back. Why not trade engines, then upgrade the, er, better one?
