obviously a different engine, but i believe it happened to clarke last year after he parked on a slope (his GT3 blew smoke for more than a few mins at summit, if i recall) and i've seen in the interweb thingys various mentions of how parking on a slope will allow oil to creep back up into somethingorother (??), thus resulting in a brief smoke screen at start up. i suggest searching rennlist, i think i saw the topic over there. yep, the stealer will prob tell you "dont worry about it" but if you're really concerned, at least hook up a durametric to see if you're throwing fault codes.

FWIW, my '06 C2S blows a good bit of smoke but only when starting up after a previous DE session. it never smokes during daily driving/any other time. i.e. while i wouldnt necessarily classify as these things as "normal", research and forum browsing has taught me that sometimes these new fangled cars do weird things in real world situations and most of the time it's nothing to worry about.

Given the sloped parking, I believe, too, its nothing to worry about. I've read that inclined parking sometimes allows oil in the sump to pool behind a cylinder. And depending upon how the gaps in the rings might have lined up at that point, will affect how much oil can creep past the rings and into the combustion chamber, which gets burned off at the next startup.

Try parking the car facing the other direction to see if the results vary, although it may simply move the pooling to cylinder(s) at the other end.

Also, FWIW, if the AOS happens to be heading south, oil can get sucked into the intake plumbing, which then results is smoky running. I don't think this is the case with your car, but if you're ever suspicious of your AOS, a quick test is to open the oil fill cap while the engine is idling. If the AOS is failing, it'll usually cause excessive vacuum in the sump, which you'll feel as you try to remove the cap.

Default 09 Boxster Smokes, Too

I have an 09 Boxster that blows embarrassing amounts of smoke at start-up about 5% of the time. It has done this since new and now has 34,000 miles. My dealer called it "Porsche perfume" and said they all do that (although my 03 Boxster never did...of course the engine failed on that one). I'm not saying you shouldn't take it into the dealer for analysis as others have suggested, I'm just throwing out the data point. Hope it helps. Good luck!

Not so much for a flat six. Valves guides close to nice source of pooled oil.
