Rich: when your Nuvi comes in, let's get together and compare. We got Jane a Garmin 2720 (right model number?) and love it. Dunno about mapping inside I-66 (although it's led us to many spots in D.C., Arlington, etc.). We had a problem with it in Houston two months ago but that was because the interstate was under construction (we were running on a temporary parallel road and the little woman inside the Garmin kept telling us to TURN LEFT, TURN LEFT to get back onto the Interstate! This summer, it did lead me directly to a cheeseburger restaurant in Ninety-Six, S.C.!! It's amazing the detail it has.

What do you guys think of the recent cell phone gps options? A buddy just got a phone from Verizon and loves the GPS. It talks to you, has a map and is cheap. Maps are constantly updated and did I mention it's cheap? Is the large screen really that big a deal?

The only GPS I've used in the Herts Ever-Lost and it's completely hit or miss. This week in Indy the restaurant I wanted to find wasnt in the system, nor was the road. WTF?

Whether or not the large screen is really that big a deal probably depends more on the user. We got ours for my wife, who is directionally impaired and needs all the help she can get. I simply can't imagine her having to look at something as small as a cellphone screen for directions, etc., but that's just her. I find that when I'm using it, i'm listening to the voice mostly and occasionally looking at the map, reading the on-screen step-by-step directions, etc. I'm finding the directions to restaurants, points of interest, etc., helpful more often that I initially had thought. A feature that's really helpful is when you arrive at a car rental place at an airport, you can set the location as a "favorite" and whenever you're ready to return, just select that favorite location out of the menu and the GPS takes you there. Dunno if cellphone GPSes offer that feature.

Hertz ever-lost has the same functionality, it's ~$10/day.

Good point about personal taste, I like the voice and hardly use the display.
