GPS, redux
 

Ok, now it's time to get serious about a GPS for my wife - what's the right choice? I'm looking at Magellan Road 6000T and Garmin Nuvi 360. Any suggestions or opinions?

I think I've narrowed it down to the Garmin Nuvi 350. I'm pretty sure it's the same as the 360 minus the Bluetooth compatibilty which we're not interested in.

Did you check out Crutchfield.com??? There is some good info and reviews on different GPS units.

I am a really big fan of Garmin. I think Garmin makes better units than most OEM systems (and I am talking about nice systems not the Porsche PCM crap).

I'm a big fan of Garmin products. I really like the Garmin Quest & Quest 2 models. Though smaller in size, they are totally portable, and much easier to transfer between cars and hide when necessary. Also can be easily used as handheld while hiking or biking. Waterproof, too. Quest 2 has the advantage of including nationwide detail maps built in; means you don't have to download blocks of detail maps from your pc.

I think the products are very well made, and the associated software (Mapinfo) is easy to use. Amazon.com has had good pricing on them.

Anyone tried the i3, which is the second-cheapest Garmin unit right now?

I recently bought a Magellan 360. It's OK but I wouldn't recommend it. The software isnt' that great.

Tomtom 910, came loaded with all the maps and has a 20gig or something harddrive to store all my junk. I used to buy Garmin/Magellen because I have left them in rental cars, this time I spent a bit more and have been very happy, in fact I just got to my hotel in Prague with its help.

Crap. You guys have been too helpful. Now I can decide between the Garmin Nuvi 350, Nuvi 360 and the Garmin Quest 2.

That's what I'm currently using, and would recommend a Garmin unit over anything else.

Bought a Nuvi when they first came out, wasn't careful, cracked the screen by putting it in a bag with other car stuff....:roll:. Decided to just buy an i3 as a cheap replacement. Both use the same set of maps, software, etc.
I think }{ still has his Nuvi.

When I was in best buy the other day they have Garmin Nuvi 660. Very similar to the 360 but with more screen. And of course, more expensive. Prices are pretty good on TigerGPS but I don't know if they have a good reputation or not. I also do not have any of these units, but I've been looking around too. X-mas is coming...
