Default SVRA US Zippo at the Glen

"Timing is everything"

The SVRA race was this weekend at the Glen. So, I couldn't attend b/c I was needed here in VA but ... we ran two cars (faux RSR and 2.0L). I get the call on Saturday ...

Jim: "I'm 13 seconds off the pace in the RSR"
Me: "Is it running? "
Jim: "yes"
Me: "are you using 5th?"
Jim: "YES!"
Me: " R U left foot braking ... on the straights?"
Jim: "NO! ... it's not running on the top end"
Me: "go back to basics, check the MFI, fuel pick ups, spark, MSD, etc ..."
Jim: "Yeah, maybe ... I'm doing 2:19s and running 65 out of 100 cars"
Me: "that sucks"

So, Sunday afternoon call...

Jim: "things got better"
Me: "what was it"
Jim: "timing was off. Was 25 degrees advanced and was supposed to be 29 degrees advanced"
Me: "no sh$t ! So, what did it do 4 u?
Jim: "Got down to 2:07s ... picked up 12 seconds ... pulled to redline around 8K where used to die around 6,500 (stop increasing pull)"
Me: fantastic!

Hard to believe .... finished 10th overall in the RSR and 1st in class.. For all you '83 and earlier guys ... make sure your timing is set correctly. If you don't know how or haven't done it, we can get together one of these weekends and do a mini Dorki clinic (preferably in a neighborhood where loud noise isn't a problem). If you have a '77 and earlier and are still running points ... get one of these pertronix ignitors or similar Crane product.

Great 2nd day comeback for Jim.

I'm interested in the timing clinic, Jase.
