All things are relative my friend. Low cost on this board probably buys you an entire car on others. I have to take the 993 in for oil change/maintenance. For what it will cost I could probably buy that d*&m ATV Gary's been wanting.
Seriously, Don and I had talked last year when I had to rebuild the 901 tranny in my car and the 915 just seemed like way too much money, not for the tranny but for the hub linkage thingie that you can only get from one source. Yeah everybody... I know....THINGIE....welcome to my world.

Dirk, do I have to remind you that you have to pay to play? 8)
You could solve your problem once and for all the way McNeil did with his twin turbo GT1 914 and install a upside down 930 box. In fact it might be cheaper to build a 2.2 and make your car a GT5. |

Uh huh. . .George Velious would just love to see/hear you coming Mr Scotsman. The cost to cofigure any other gearbox to our specific chasis is STOOPID expensive! A 930, indeed! If you can do a 930, you're doing much better in real estate than I expected

First gear is the weakest point in overpowered 914's. Shearing the teeth off first is not unusual. Instead of locking out first gear racers will remove first/reverse gear set to avoid this problem and save a pound and a half of weight. Makes these cars alot of fun in the paddock. Torquey motors will shear the teeth off the pinon.
Racers with motors over 400-450hp are pretty much forced into the 930 trannys. By the time you get to 450hp the tranny is probably the cheapest part. |

Yeah I know cheap is relative, ain't many such beasts when talking Porsche's. I am going with the 915, which I know would buy me a years supply of Haggis and single malt. I do not want to have to do it again, I don't want it to come apart again and lock up the transmission and become known as teener bopper
