That's the thing with any group. The problem is, it happens to one guy and the word is out; no one spreads rumors about how nice and helpful people are, only that they met a dick. Unfortunately, the remaining 99% of the group get lumped in with that a-hole.

For what its worth, I have been stunned at how nice all of the Dorki and the PCA members are. Everyone has been very welcoming, extremely helpful, and I have yet to meet a single fathead (at least that I have recognized as a fathead). Although I have both a wrenching and a track bent, I have a water-pumper that doesn't need too much wrenching. Nonetheless, the Dorki have hidden their disdain pretty well and welcomed me into group, for which I am grateful.

I frankly feel guilty because I "take" far more than I seem to be able to "give" at this point, mostly because (1) I am a no-nothing novice, (2) I don't have decent garage space, and (3) I have three very young children who need (and deserve) most all of my free time. Nonetheless, I have decided to do what little I can now (host track video viewing parties and attend whatever wrenching get togethers I can) and contribute more when I have more experience and time to donate.

In any event, thanks to all for dorkiphus and PCA.

I agree, there is an old customer service rule that surmises ...a customer who gets good service will tell one or tweo people, a customer who recieves bad service will tell anyone who will listen.

Thanks Kurt, another good and accurate post. Also not picking on any one post or person!! I would love to see some of the energy and innoventiveness? from the Dorkis be seen in PCA. The fact that someone in PCA (yes I, like Kurt am on the Board) wants to incorporate some of the Dorki philosophy/energy into PCA is a compliment and not a threat. I have met no more fatheads or "snobs" in the PCA than any where else in life. I was a mite reluctant to join PCA about 10 years ago, and have been very involved and volunteered to the best of my time and ability since, made many good friends. Is it just kicking big brother that I feel? or are there issues that can be addressed??. remember we have had some posts and threads fairly recently that almost ended with the dreaded monitors coming down to see what the h**l was going on. Potomac has 2,000 plus members, lots of great programs which should appeal to a broad cross section of all Porsche owners.Don't join just for DE, get involved and and help make a good club better, or advocate for those changes you feel are necessary and blow some fresh air into the system.

Now see this is what I do best. Jump in with a simple question and then step back and watch the parade

Hi, my name is Dave and I’m a member of the PCA!
Linda and I jointed about 10 years ago because owning an old Porsche we wanted a venue to meet and drive with other Porsche owners. But it wasn’t until finding the Dorki “clubhouse” that I found others that enjoyed working on them as much as I do (except of course for WPs). A quick look at other car clubs shows that PCA has a BIG owner program with track days, auto-x, rallies, and more. Reading the minutes I was reminded just how $xpensive renting RFK or anyplace else for that matter is. If you like the DE program you have to join PCA, there are other venues for tracksters but PCA is still the best that I know.
Linda still contributes a lot of time and talent to PCAP. I don’t do as much PCA as I used to but do try and help the Ds when possible. The Dorki clan is a special group of people and I hope they stay that way. If you look around you’ll see a lot of PCAs in the member list.
Though, inflammatory I really just wanted to know if anybody had heard or talked to PCAP and what the outcome was?.

TD, everyone's been in your shoes at one point. I have been there for several years as I have learned to fix my car. I now know a ton about my car and try to help others with theirs. Don't know much except general wrenching and SC's at this point. My next endevor is HPDC and DE, I again become a nubie and need more help than I can give.
You've done a great (and dangerous) thing to offer up your home to this bunch! I really appreciate people offering even If it turns out that it might not work for me.

I see PCA in a very simular light. For the few bucks for membership, I have a gazillion things that I could participate in. Like you with 3 kids, I don't have many oppertunities to get out, but on the rare occasion I know that between PCA and Dorki, there is something going on.

I rarely comment on these types of things, but I think Kurt's comments are right. With size things change: They get more professional, they become regulated, the "official" party line has to be carefully worded.
If it wasn't for PCA I wonder if Dorki would exist? This site would be very different without the talk about DE and people prepairing for DE.

Speaking for myself I don't think what the president of PCA said would be all that bad. It appears he is intregued by what is happening here and seems interested in what we think, even if we are not all members. If he's going to listen, let's tell him what we would like to see more of and what we would like to see less of. I don't have many suggestions because the limited exposure I have had as a member has been all positive. I may not fit in with the what I view as the steriotype of many of the members, but then I've got you guys. (Kind of reminds me of Bill Murray pep talk in Stripes. "The Wreched Refuse" I don't have to worry about spell check and I can/ or think you expect me to be dirty and smelly!

I'll shut up now, cause I'm more intrested in talking about cars.
