I finally received all the parts needed to change the color of my interior from tan to black. The question is the cold garage space?
Ist: I am going to remove all the interior and spray my tan headliner with a vinyl color spray. 2nd: going to replace the tan carpet with a new carpet kit from original fit interiors. The spray can for the color spray and the 3M carpet adhesive recommends temp's above 60 degrees. I want to start on this project tomorrow morning, is this ok to try with a small heater in the garage or wait for the warmer weather? Thanks. George

George, I dyed the interior vinyl and changed the carpeting on Lu's 73E last winter. You'll need a heater to make your garage temp stay above 50 degrees. Of course the fumes will make the weekend go by in a blur.

You could probably get by with the lower temps but it will take forever. The glue will not dry at low temps. >50 deg is needed for the solvents to evaporate.

Off you go to Home Depot!
Buy yourself a small propane heater, which will keep your garage above 50 for the job. BTW, you need to keep it above 50 for the whole drying period. Would not reccommend leaving the propane heater on overnight, so maybe your small electric will be enough to hold the temp.

One suggestion. Go to a construction equipment rental place and rent one of those big kerosene-fire heaters they use on construction projects. They sort of look like a mini jet engine on wheels. Get 5 gals. of kerosene and you'll be able to keep the garage at a toasty 72 degrees all day long, no matter what the outside temp is. Just imagine working in a tee shirt at this time of year

George, Karl just reminded me of a kerosene heater I have in my basement storage you can borrow. I have lots of kerosene as well. I know you just love my propane heater in my garage. But the Kerosene will do great.
Karl, I thought you were going to the race?

If you are using anything with flammable solvents then heater and enclosed space = Boom!
Better read the contents of the materials used before you start. The solvent based contact cements used for automotive carpets are very flammable and will also get you high as a kite if used in an enclosed space. The water based contact cements work but not as well. If the solvents are water based then you can use a kerosene, electric or propane heater. The above mentioned propane will run you $40 to purchase from Home Depot. This is less that the rental of a powered heater. Somewhat less heat but it will warm up a good sized room. Just stick it on a 20# propane can. I have one and they work great. (I would lend you mine but it is in used this weekend) The powered rental heaters are noisy as hell but put out a LOT of heat and can heat you right out of a regular sized garage in about 10 min but you will be warm! If you don't have a large space to heat then one of the propane heaters might do the trick and you can use it on the tank off the back yard grill. No oil stink no extra fuel cans and it is small and easy to store when it is not on the tank.

Karl, I saw they were on the pole. Is Mike driving that car? Will your car be ready as promised?
