Good info, thanks - that helps understand it all a bit more.

I wasn't TRYING to be a PITA or undercut anyone's expertise - even though it may have come off that way. Just curious on the details of track surface.

Once upon a time, I raced at Indianapolis Raceway Park with the drag strip front straight. As you exited the last turn onto the drag strip it was glorious sandpaper grip - unless it was raining, where the traction compound turned to snot... They'd always brief it in the rider's meeting, but that never prevented plenty of folks from ending up with broken bikes and bones because of it.

Don't need no stinking runways anyway.

True -- I hear you can just drop them down onto fields if the propellers/ rotors are oriented in the right direction.

I think it is called "limp landing"

Said it before, but 20 or so years ago when they took the concrete out of the turns at sp, the asphalt was new and the tires of the time were peeling it right out of the corners.

Not sure about he 20 years but if memory serves it was a crappy repave. They did a couple of spot repairs for getting it right (though only a partial repave)

As said lots of personal bests on the new pavement without lots of crashes.
What he said. I ran in a NASA race at SPM in 2008 a week or two after a repave. A couple of us were trading track records back and forth all weekend. Running SP2 944 laps in the 1:25s.
