D.A.G. Pure and simple. Wow, that guy's lucky to be alive.

Sadly, something similar happened at a house renovation my dad was undertaking in Lewes DE many years. Historic old home had a large brick fireplace & chimney in the original kitchen. Plan was to demo the chimney, but keep the old bricks for later reuse elsewhere. One of the workers was on the roof, carefully removing the bricks, one at a time. However, when he got down to the rafters just below the roof, no one realized that the chimney was leaning into the beam. When the last supporting brick was removed, the 2 story tall brick chimney slowly fell into the kitchen area until it smashed through the floorboards, and into the dirt crawlspace underneath. Luckily, it didn't hit any other supporting structure(s) in the process, which could have collapsed that entire part of the house, including the poor worker on the roof. I remember running over to that side of the house after hearing the crash, and seeing the gaping hole in the floor, a clearing dust cloud, and the worker crying through the opening in the roof, "I didn't do it!......I swear I didn't do it!!"

Agree. Though it appeared to me that as the "supporting" blocks got fewer & fewer, they must have been under more compression, because they didn't appear to break through as easily. You could also hear the pitch of the whacks changing, too.

lol Too bad that one didn't have a better ending. I'll anxiously await the sequel.
