Default 1979 SC engine running ROUGH. Need wires / Distributor

So it starts, it stops, and it runs but not very well. New spark plugs didn't fix it up so I'm gonna say it's down to wires or distributor. It is definitely missing a cylinder and that seems like the next logical step. Anyone have a set of wires sitting around that they haven't gotten a chance to install yet? Any other thoughts on what it might be?

Thanks!

I have a set of Carrera wires you're welcome to borrow (make sure you put them on in the right order! ) - are they the same on an SC and a Carrera?

Thanks for the offer, but it looks like the bundle lengths are different.

Lengths will be close enough to test. Just maybe not route neatly. If you do get new wires, I'd suggest springing for magnecors.

Check the rotor and cap for ugliness. Else you have to check fuel distribution. Has to be a fuel or spark problem

Yeah. I've already got the magnecores in the basket at Pelican. Wish I could find them locally, but they should be here in time for me to come out and check out the festivities next weekend.

If you haven't ordered yet, you can find them cheaper. I think Apex is one of the local NASA supporters. Don't know if he has in stock though.

Eric Wong can likely get you a cap & rotor faster & cheaper than pelican too.

I suggest that if you don't really know WHAT the problem is, take your SC to Matt de Maria. I was about to start replacing ignition parts to solve a problem with hesitation and kamikaze coils. A visit to Matt, who found that my SC actually was running way too rich, probably saved me a lot of bucks and aggravation.

Matt certainly knows what he's doing. But that takes all the fun out of it. If I wanted a car that ran every time I got in it, I wouldn't own a 40 year old Porsche.

The things I'm doing at this point are things that I should of done when I swapped the engine last year, but was trying to rush to make to the events. Now I'm taking my time and going through it all. If all else fails, Matt will be called in to the rescue.

Check vacuum lines and wiring? Did you get the wiring sort from last season’s episode? Agree on Carrera wires being close enough.

Might be time for that 3.6 transplant!
