Received an invite to the 2012 Porsche World Roadshow this past weekend and was really looking forward to it when the storm hit late Friday night. Not really knowing what to expect picked up 94teener around 6:00 am and headed to the track it looked like a massive bomb hit between here and Summitt Point nothing but downed trees and power lines all over the place. Arrived about 7:30 am the flags were flying, huge tent with A/C, hot coffee and P-car galore. Shenandoah was set up with an acceleration lane to compare the V8 and Hybrid technology in the Cayenne and Panamera. A autocross circuit to test the new Boxster. Last but not least a short course on Shenandoah including the Carousel to run a lap following an instructor in the Panamera, 991 and 991S what a blast. The event was extremely well run and loads of fun, PCA puts on a great show. The new 991S kicks A$$
Would you hand these guys the keys? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Uh oh, in that middle pic it looks like someone did not get enough fiber
Looks like it was a nice way to spend the day. Nothing like having someone else pick up the tab for gas, brakes and tires (and a couple hundred extra horsepower) while you play at the track.

I was there yesterday in the afternoon too. Was a good Porsche marketing show, but I was disappointed with getting only 10 minutes of (slowish) seat time. Wasn't really worth it for us, considering the 3 hours of round trip driving.

I also thought it was an excellent event. I was surprised by how much more powerful the 991 S felt to me over the base 991 on the track. Having said that, several other folks disagreed and thought I was just reacting to the Porsche Sports Exhaust that the "S" had on its options list. It did sound nice...
Also, while I'm not ready to defect from the manual camp, the PDK in Sport Plus mode was very impressive. If I was buying a track-only car, it would be a PDK. At the end of the day, from Porsche's perspective, the event served its purpose: I'm now trying to figure out a way to upgrade to a lightly optioned 991 base. Well played Porsche, well played. |

First time I've driven a PDK. Really a video game like experience form me, much easier to focus on braking and steering. Have to admit the computer shifted very well, much better than I could.
I was surprised how much fun the Panamera was on the track.

Does anyone remember exactly how each of the 991s were optioned? I know the "S" had the PSE, but other than that I'm at a loss.

Definitely makes it easier, but I wonder if it's as satisfying as manual? And I'd want to use the PDK in manual mode with paddle shifters on the track anyway. The idea of the transmission deciding when to shift on the track makes me uncomfortable.
