Default Looking for a few dorkis who need car storage space.

Don't really know where to post this, but I am putting a feeler out regarding car storage.
Right now, I have a place in Loudoun county, Va.

It is a barn (nice concrete floor and a four post lift kind of barn), where I work on my cars. (wife's porsche 912 and my MGA).

I have about six club members that store project cars, or cars they want to store with me, some fully restored, some not.

This allows me to have the place, and everyone benefits. I charge a fair price, and it is nice to keep it with people I know.
I had a club member store a beautiful MGTC, a few MGA twincams, some MGA racecars...and a guy who moved to Amsterdam for two years stored his miata there...suffice to say I have a few references over the past few years.
It has been a pleasure, I did oil changes on their cars to help them out when they were unable to do so themselves. Occasional washing/detailing, etc. Some are just general "barn find" cars that wait for their turn to be restored.

I am now looking at a very nice large open floorplan building in Winchester, Va. What I am getting at here is that Winchester is where I live and I'd like to rent this place and be closer to home whilst keeping the place in Loudoun county. I plan to move my 912 restoration operation (my wife's 912 I am just getting down to bare metal)...out to this shop.
I have space for other like-minded people like myself that love to work on their own cars, whether changing the oil or replacing the front pan, that need to free up some space in their garage, stash a future restoration car, or put a car up for a long nap.

Again, this is a feeler, and I want to keep this in the Dorki community.
Not many of you have met me as since I have joined, my wife's 912 has been a restoration project from the word go.
I am active on the 912 board (www.912bbs.org) and love the hobby.
I also like the "club mentality" that we all share, and want to be able to offer this facility to about ten people that need storage.

I can offer security, professionalism and a person who can see to the details that a storage shed does not.

Getting your car from the building is a matter of a phone call as I work 24hr shifts as a career firefighter/paramedic, and my wife works right in town (about a mile from this facility), so access is not a concern given appropriate notice.

If you feel that you may be interested, please email me or PM me via the list.

This is the only place that I am looking for people as I know that just about everyone I have dealt with in this club is someone who is like me, passionate about their hobby.

look forward to speaking with you.
cheers

Would you be open to the possibility of permitting unlimited access? In other words, my own key or access pass? Also, does (or will) the place have a lift?

Default access and lift

Well, I am thinking on that subject myself at the moment.
my place in Loudoun, the need for access is little, as most of the cars are not streetable, they are being "stored".

I would have to say that I am leaning on the side of, call me up the night before and I will meet you, or my wife will meet you.

I just like to have a "known" quantity when it comes to who has access to everybody else's cars.

case in point.
If everyone has a key, and a car turns up with a scratch/ding/etc.
If I am the only key holder, we all know who is responsible....me.

I think unlimited access only brings things of worry such as..."well, who else has access to my car?"....

hope you understand/follow my concern....

This place will most definitely have a lift.

A large bonus when you consider proximity to Summit Point......

cheers

What great timing. It would be out of the way for me, but is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of. How far is Winchester from the Beltway?
PM me the details if you would and thanks for sharing the community spirit.

Default storage space....looks like we are signing a lease

Please keep in mind that these pics were taken yesterday, and when I move in, those bushes will be trimmed and a little landscaping will be done..

Did I mention this is 15 miles from Summit point?

Just for clarification, this is a 2500 square foot warehouse/office.
small office, with bathroom (office to become a workshop...engine rebuilding room).
It is in Winchester, Va.
Personal property tax...hmm.
I would check the city of Winchester website.
Here is the detail from their website:
Real Estate - $0.63 per $100.00 of assessed value
Personal Property - $3.50 per $100.00 of assessed value
Business Personal Property - $3.50 per $100.00 of assessed value

FYI, if your car is registered in another state, I don't think you have to worry about property taxes. However, on that nice little card you fill out at the DMV, you have to list where your car is primarily garaged. This is so the bloodsucking tax people can bill you..may be cheaper for you in winchester, may not.

This building was constructed in 1960, and has a brand new roof (last year), a 16 foot roll up front door, and 12 foot rear roll up door.

Inside, all concrete floor with drain in the center, with an adjoining workshop/office space.

I am thinking in the neighborhood of $100 per month depending on lenth of stay.

If there are any more questions, let me know.

Winchester is 70 miles from downtown DC. An hour and twenty minutes if you have a lead foot like my wife. From the beltway: on the Toll Road to Route 7: about an hour.(again my wife's lead foot....she's gonna be a porsche driver soon so watch out y'all )

Point to note:
With me moving my tools (lift, engine crane, welder, blast cabinet, myriad of dorky car guy tools), this will free up considerable space in my Middleburg, Va storage space. This may be of some interest to you as it is only 20 miles or so from the beltway.....smack dab on route 50!....there will be places to fill there also.

Wish me luck, looks like we are getting a fun clubhouse to visit on the weekends in your shiny P cars! [/img]

Default some questions answered

Yes, I will be happy to show the place to prospective renters, when the building is in my hands.

Yes, I am renting spaces in my closer Middleburg building.

Yes, I will have renters insurance to cover the entire contents of the building.
The owner of the building has fire insurance also.

PS, I will be now putting this "feeler" out to my pals on the Porsche 912 BBS as I need to get at LEAST five good solid interested people to make the rent.

thank you for your interest and input.
cheers
