I bet you could drop more than that. Those 24-way heated shiatsu massage power seats weigh 80 lbs each I'd bet. Plus all that carpet and sound deadening. A/C weighs a ton too, and really, when you're enjoying a lovely day at the track, does the air temperature matter? Stereo system with all those heavy speakers, you don't need it, the motor makes a tune more sexual than any Blaupunkt radio.

While you're at it, those doors, hood, and engine lid are all available in fiberglass or even carbon fiber. And the sunroof? Who uses that? Yank the motor and weld the panel shut.

C'mon Larry, you know you want to.

I see a "tipping point" coming where you give up on the idea of a dual purpose car and pick up a track ho!

It's a liberating step that frees you up to buy a daily driver that really makes sense for what you do with it (i.e. drive 25 MPH in Beltway traffic). Suddenly, with a dedicated track machine in the garage, diesels and hybrids don't look so stooopid (esp. a diesel to tow your track car!).

But when he adds back 190 lbs with a full cage, he'll be back to dropping 200-300 lbs. net.

I don't race, just DEs, but I wonder if go any slower than racers on the track that DE'ers can get a way with half cage? It would seem that if we are to go off to a wall, the impact would be pretty much the same as if we were racing, no? I think the risk of De'ers screwing up bad enough to hit a wall hard is less than the risk while racing, but the impact is probably the same.

If you have seats and harnesses you should seriously consider a roll bar.

I'd agree, I don't have those, I am waiting for an appropriate financial time, to get the seats, harness and at the cage. I think all should be done at the same time.

Seats and belts add a great amount of safety. The roll bar adds some more to this but not nearly as much as the seating systems did to start with.
