Default 944 Coolant Drain - NO MESS

I changed the brake fluid (that ATE blue really does NOT like to change color does it?!) and coolant this weekend on Doublemint.

Having read all the horror stories on here about the mess I would be cleaning up from draining the radiator into the cross member, I decided to give pulling the lower radiator hose a try. In total, I spilled 5 drops on the garage floor just from it splashing when it hit the 5 gallon bucket......I was prepared with 2 other drain pans under the cross member, but did not need them. Pulled the hose until it was almost off to let the bulk of it drain, then pulled all the way off to finish the job.

OK.....now tell me why this is a stupid way to do it and what I did wrong

I have no useful response to your question; but I am very interested when someone does.

A shirt full of coolant is an important rite of passage and a major part of the journey that is 944 ownership. You have robbed yourself and your car of this important, and meaningful experience. You might as well go out and buy one of those backward air-cooled thingies everyone on this board seems to be so enthralled with.

But yeah, I have nothing useful to say either. I'm incapable of getting under a 944 and not coming out covered in something, so I'm not really sure what to tell you.

Put the 5 gallon bucket in a big tray. 3'x4' and 8" deep is about what mine is. Its like double bagging for a slut. Sometimes even one drop is too much of a mess.

Perhaps everyone is stunned by a 944 owner that accomplished a task in a more efficient manner. Or a repair being done and the car still continues to run. It could also be the theory of "It's not worth the bullet..."

Are those remarks sufficiently snide for you to be dismayed with your accomplishment? If not, I'm sure others may chime in..

As John mentioned....you are missing the point of 944 ownership buddy. If we wanted fast, easy to maintain, inexpensive, European sports cars we would probably be looking at other options in the Audi or VW lineup besides the 944.
