Default Oil Leak

Well it happened, right before my HPDC tomorrow.

I drove the car to work today to make sure that everything will be ok for tomorrow. No leaks, no strange noises, no nothing. Since I have owned it the car has never leaked one drop until today. On my way back from lunch it was smoking and within 1 minute of sitting in the spot there was a puddle of oil on the ground. This morning the oil level meter seemed low even once it warmed up but the pressure was fine and the dip stick looked low.

I am trying to get in touch with ASG as they are in between my office and home to see if I can have them put it up on a lift and look at it.

My question is, should I even drive it to them or just play it safe and call a flat bed?

I am trying to see if it is just something easy (hopefully due to the suddenness of the situation) but probably isn't (due to the quantity of oil spilled).

I guess HPDC is out for me tomorrow.

Advice is appreciated.

Did you put oil in the car? Maybe you put too much and when it got hot, it overflowed? Or you just spilled when you put oil in?

BTW, you don't have to drive your Porsche at HPDC. You can drive any car (your beater).

Don't loose heart yet!! It is very likely either oil pressure sender or temp sender. Both fixable without dropping the engine, but others will probably want to drop it.If not far my instinct would be to get it to ASG or wherever soon so they have a little time. Check the puddle and if not huge drive it over if close before the traffic gets bad and watch your temps and pressure like a hawk. Good luck, but I am sure when of the more experienced Dorki will have your motor out fixed and back in.

where was the puddle with respect to the engine ie front, rear, left, center, right.

Look in the engine bay and check for fresh oil around the valve covers and chain covers.

The idiot light sender is on the front of motor (engine tanny joint) and smack in the middle. You can reach over the intake manifold and feel around the top of the engine for lots of oil which is what you will find it the thing cracked.

Is it still leaking or was it a one time thing? Your not getting out of HPDC that easly.

Ok, that was noob freak out # ? .

Thanks all for the quick replies.

Dirk you were spot on. I eased the car from Chantilly to ASG to find a soaked engine coming directly from the oil pressure sender. A few hours later and its fixed. Still smells a bit, but no new smoke. Big thanks to the guys at ASG. 8)

So its off to HPDC for me tomorrow. WOO HOO!

See everyone tomorrow.

I'm just happy this happened today and not at SP.
