Default Thanks OldTee, and also Bill Miller

Update (sorry, no photos)
This morning I made sure everything was okay in the engine compartment and ready for the engine, used Bill M's hoist to lift the engine off the stand and put it on OldTee's ATV jack. Removed the yoke, mated the transmission, and lined up the parts to ask OldTee about. He came by around 2:30 (I was still at Bill Miller's returning his hoist and picking up some parts) and we installed the engine into the car, and hooked up MOST of the stuff.

To get the engine running:
  • Attach oil lines from thermostat to engine/oil tank
  • Attach oil tube from engine (need to get 2 ring clamps first)
  • Figure out what line that looks like large vacuum line/plastic piece/small vacuum line, thats right by the oil fill tube, if for and if it can be plugged (will post a photo tomorrow if no answer by then)
  • Attach accelerator cable
  • Final check on fuse box - see what that one loose gray wire is
  • insulate (+) wires from rear fuse box (but mark - may be useful in the future)
  • Attach DME harness and DME relay
  • Attach battery
  • Attach giant black wire (to solenoid? - need to figure out for sure first)
  • Cross fingers
  • Turn key

Still to do to get the car actually able to move under it's own power:
  • Source clutch helper spring, clutch release lever, and change lever
  • Install the above on car
  • Attach clutch cable
  • Attach axles
  • Tighten axle bolts as tight as I can, pending a giant torque wrench
  • Install seat(s)
  • Install harnesses

To get car roadworthy:
  • Install rear bumper
  • Install horn
  • Have sway bar mounts welded in place
  • Install rear sway bar
  • Have car aligned and corner balanced
  • Install rear tow hook
  • Attach black and black/violet wires to tachometer

It looks like the Targa will get another shot at Mid-Ohio. Much as I want to get the coupe to that first event, realistically it would be a stretch and probably a really bad idea. I needed to be at my current point at least 2 weeks ago.

You still seem hesitant about that large black wire. Think the problem thru. The starter needs gobs of juice from the battery therefore a big wire. There are no other big wires going TO the engine. So ........

Don't forget a new oil filter.

Make a complete list of parts from PET before you call DC Auto.

Your progress is good. Not taking this car to Mid Ohio is smart. You need to drive it around for a few days before you try the track.

Oil goes in before you start!

Yeah, I was thinking about the fact that I forgot to put in transmission oil while the transmission was out

I'll search later for the pressure suggestions (putting tubing in the Swepco bottle, pressurizing it, etc) unless someone wants to help me out by posting the solution or link here...

Just get the hand pump that attaches to the Swepco bottle. With a lift it's easy to fill the trans.

Also tape a note to yourself on the steering wheel or dash that says "ADD OIL TO ENGINE" and whatever notes you want to double check before attempting to start the engine.

X2 especially about the notes.

Might I suggest putting the note over the ignition so you can/t/ turn it on without removing the note?

Hey Doc, just come by and pick up the two pumps I set out for you. One for gross transfer of fluid into the txmn and one that fits on the bottle to fine tune at the end. The one for fine tuning takes more pumps than you will find at HS dance. Takes forever and ruins your arm for a week.

So do it and lets not hear any more fine whine!

Good day today. After tech and looking at trucks, Kaefer dropped by - a man with a mission. Here's the result:
(sorry for you early birds--it will finish uploading soon).

Also swapped in WeVo transmission mounts (only had 2 so far, need some for the engine, too), fixed a misplaced wire at the fuse box, and stole a breather hose from the Targa to replace one that I apparently don't have. Hope to borrow one tomorrow and order on Monday (or have made up at a shop). It's #28 in this diagram (930-207-385-01 - PET make it look like it may only be the 930 part but doesn't list a 911 part separately) - it comes with #29 in the PET diagram (930-110-267-04). If anyone has these in good condition and wants to sell, please let me know.
