Default Camera Mount

I've seen a lot of bolt on gadgets for camera mounts. Is there anything wrong with welding a small tab or bracket on the roll bar in a good spot?

I have to get the welder out for another small project anyway.
Of course I haven't done this before so are thare any tips for choosing the location? One video I saw had the rear view mirror in the way. Can the mirror be removed?

I also thought I saw something about a strap in the event the camera case broke on impact?

No special hi tech video planned, just using the old sony we bought to record the kids!

Thanks!

Bill you may have issues with vibration if you "Hard mount" the camera mount to the roll bar. I used the I/O Port Racing mount, and it worked very well. It used a rubber isolator to dampen the vibrations. If you can find a way to incorporate a foam gasket between the bar and the camera you should be ok.

Default Camera Mount

Bill,

If you decide to go with the I/O mount I think I've got a new one (still in the box) somewhere. I'll sell if for 1/2 price ($50) if I can find it.

Bill, I'd jump on that deal! It's a great piece of gear.

Aubrey,

If Bill doesn't jump on the deal, may I be next in line?

Thanks!

Default Camera Mount

Bill & Vu,

I'll look this afternoon. The one I mentioned last night has already been snapped up. I may have a second but I'll have to look and let you know.

You can mount it anywhere it will fit.It just clamps U bolt type to the roll bar and has 3 adjustments. You need your mirror!! If your camera is fairly large, ie bigger than palm size, vibration may be too much.

Thanks Dirk!
Is the typical best view position in the center between the seats and low enough to shoot below the mirror, but high enough to get below the mirror.

It looks like on that mount the base for the camera sits about 2-3" above whatever bar you attach it too.

I haven't gotten into any of the unusual settings on my camera, but do they typically have an option to record upside down? In other words hang it from the top bar? I haven't checked, but in my case that might make it point right at the mirror.
