Default Veretex rebuilt transmissions

I'm looking to rebuild the transmission on my 85 Carrera. Has anyone heard anything negative about the rebuilt transmissions offered by Veretexauto?

I'm currently trying to get them to send me a rebuilt tip transmission. They want the old one back first(?!??) and have given me the run around for 2mo (though I haven't been good at remembering to press the issue.) They didn't have any problem charging the CC $4k w/o shipping anything. IMO, 'Al' and the boys seem shady as hell. If I could find one somewhere else I'd buy it.

Bottom line: No way *I* would ever buy a 'rebuilt' 915 from them.

How do you ship the old one back first?? Don't you need the crate and packaging from the new one in order to do that? And what are you supposed to do with the car in the mean time? What an absurd policy.

Thanks for the headsup, and I'll be sure to steer clear away from those guys. So is there anyone locally who you would recommend?

If you guys are gonna bother with shipping and wait times, just send it to a reputable place. Check out californiamotorsports.net. I'm picking my 993 tranny up from them tomorrow and, if I weren't having some extra stuff done to it, the tab would be the same Vertex charges for their rebuild. But CMS is top notch. I got an hour-long tour of their shop and these guys are the Porsche tranny experts. I dropped my tranny off there less than a month ago and they were closed for a week during Xmas, so I'm happy with the TAT. If anyone wants to discuss offline, PM me.

Which 986 tip do you have? It is an Audi/VW FWD trans turned around, at least that is the case for the 5 speed 986 gearbox. 99-02 Passat for example, bolt on, move the shifting mechanism over and flip the ring/pinion so you have 5 forward gears instead of 5 reverse. 3-500 any day of the week.

Oh man, it would be soooo cool to have 5 reverse gears!

Most think you are stuck in reverse when droving on the track... BANG, POW, Oh snap, 10 ring
