Default Old tires need help

I have a set of Pilot sport cup tires that were given to me when I purchased my car. The tires have plenty of life on them(only used for one event) but they are quite hard, 5 years old, but no dry rot or cracks at all. I understand there is a solution I can coat the tires with that will soak in coat after coat to soften them up. Anyone have experience using this and what is it? I hate to trash a good set of tires like these if I can bring them back to life. Where would I get this liquid? Thanks

I don't think there's any really useful "product" out there that will effectively revive the tires. However, they may not be too bad anyway. I would suggest either:

A) Just mount them on the car and drive them. The first session will likely feel greezy, but even a set of RA1's or Hoo's that have sat over the winter need a wakeup session. The tires may never get to 100% performance, but they should be usable for at least a couple of events. If the tires still feel horrible after 3 or so sessions, then they are a lost cause anyway.

B) Talk to Radial Tire about shaving the "skin" off the surface of the tire. Not necessarily cheap, but might be worth the effort to access the better rubber without having to wear down to it on your own. Of course depends on how much tread you have to begin with.

Unless you're racing and 100% performance is critical, older tires can usually be salvaged to some degree for some fun DE sessions. If nothing else, it may help you improve your "catching" skills.

Try "Summit Racing" they sell a product that might help but Tony's ideas are very good. These could be good for "rains" too.

Hmmm, old/hard versions of a tire that isn't very grippy in the wet when new...maybe not.

John Sullivan has been telling me about a tire treatment that he has used to revive Hoosiers and slicks, but I have not used it: http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p..._Strengtheners. He says that this stuff is more expensive but better than Formula V. It might be worth a try.

Hmmm didn't know that! I may try your other idea on some 888s (which I also don't like)
