Default Track Insurance

What are typical costs? How does it work? Any recommended companies? Is it necessary for DE's?

Your thoughts....

Living in MD, I think you have two choices, American Collectors and Pacific. In VA, we can only get Pacific. My cost is ~$600 / year for 20 track days (cost is related to track days), $25k agreed value, and I have a $5k deductable. It only covers me for PCA-type DE events, not time trials or anything competitive.

Jim - you got my attention enuf to call American Collectors, my insurance provider. I pay about half what you pay for unlimited drivers ed days with about the same coverage for an insured year. Big difference. Bob

I have USAA and they said I need no supplemental insurance at DE provided I have an instructor in the car AND that I'm not being timed.

American Collectors Ins. is a great deal for us MD guys just for this purpose. I talked to St Farm about DE and realized supplemental insurance was the way to go. Its such a marginal cost I figure it into the annual track budget.

Gunther...make sure you get that in writing. I have USAA as well, but seem to remember seeing it in writing that any -speed- events (which were defined and included what I consider DE events) are not covered.

My '72 is insured with American Collectors in VA. My original policy covered me for 'club' events that are not racing. They've since created the separate policies for track usage in other states (MD being one of them), so I figure I'm no longer covered when on track. Hopefully they'll add VA to their track insurance coverage soon.
