Default FRS on track?

We know the FRS radios work well on fun runs, but has anyone tried to use them on the track? I can;t see a reason while they would not work, but if someone has tried and can confirm it that would be great. If so , I'm gonna try to adapt the FRS into my helmet intercom system. Now that would be cool!

Tony -

Where were you this weekend? You missed a lot of fun!

You are opening whole new vistas with your idea to integrate FRS into the helmet intercom system. Not only would student/instructor conversations be possible, but inter-car communications would become possible...

Now while that's interesting, I'm not absolutely positive I like that idea... What if we started to call each other names while on track? (oh, ok, what if we could hear what names we were calling each other?) The red mist would close in, and who knows where it could lead?

Here's what I used during my motorcycle days. If you use GMRS, you should get decent range. If using FRS, you may be limited in distance.

The only difficulty with this set up is that you have to have a "push to talk" button. Using the voice activated option doesn't work very well in a noisy environment.

I wonder if passing signals via radio would be acceptable?

How about, " Hey you, in the water pumper, move over, a real Porsche is coming through!"

Not that I would recomend this but.... you can plug directly into an instructors type Chaterbox. My FRS units also came with a earbud and a VOX unit on a cord that plugs into the unit. I bet this would not be hard to rig up in a helmet.
Personaly, I don't know how advisable 2 way com, driver to driver would be. Consentration might be reduced by driving and talking. I know that I can't think and drive. I already have though about some of the potental conversations

I made a rig to plug in my scanner so I can hear the corner workers calls. A little heads up goes a long way sometimes. I keep it low as I have found the the corner workes tend to talk a little faster and louder when calling in something important.
