Default New guy with a pair of questions

Greetings

I’ve been lurking for the last week or so and would like to intro myself.
As if you wouldn’t guess from my user ID my name is Greg.
I’m a 928 owner and I come in peace - meaning you no harm. :P

You have a nice forum here, which is quite friendly, but I have
2 questions
1. Can someone explain the origin of Dorkiphus
2. Where / what is the “Taj”. It’s used in different ways and I’ve narrowed it down to these 3 possibilities
o Garage
o Watering hole
o Tree house fort where the Dorki’s hide from the girls

Could it be all three?

Did I see you driving east on 66 yesterday?

The Dorkiphus name is a complicated story, but is rooted in Greek Mythology and current bullying trends. I think the first real, semi-official get-together was replacing my G50 clutch in June '02. Since then it has really mutated.

The Taj is Kurt's monster garage in Falls Church and something we all aspire to someday. It is the MacDaddy of DIY-dom.

Now if you asked if I was on the shoulder of 66 with the hood up....
that might have been me.

No, she hasn't been on the road since Sat.

All of the above but #3 is an unwanted side effict most of the time.

Feel free to stop by and see the "Taj" if you like I am almost in McLean near Kirby /Westmorland. Don't get too excited by what they say, it's just a shop. PM me for directions or call me at 571 233 3421 if you like. Stop by on Sunday if you want to meet some other Dorki.

The story that was passed down from generation to generation to me is that one of the Web founders had a domain name of Dorkiphus that was sitting unused. When the damn fine idea of this site popped up it was put into service right off the shelf. When the site started to take off the “Originators” asked what name to give it and the overwhelming vote was keep this one in place.

It is a derivation of the fable of Sisyphus. He was a poor bastard condemned for eternity into pushing a rock up a hill so steep that just as he was near the top it would get away from him, roll back down and he would have to start over. Modern version is writing computer code from what I have heard, hence the “dork” modification. Early Porsches are also an unending labor in my opinion.

That said, welcome, even if you have too many wet cylinders and in the trunk.

Run while you can or you too will be assimilated….

Eli the collector and friends are installing new suspension parts in his latest Porsche and I am using the opportunity of an already open shop day to spread out the used but good stuff that an unnamed local car dealer wanted thrown out. Folks are welcome to stop by. Don't no if anyone is bringing the donuts but I make plenty of bad coffee.
