Default Any Greenies planning to go to Watkins Glen DE?

Any Greenies from the recent DE at SP planning to go to SP? I'm thinking
about trying to get in on it and was wondering who else might be interested...

Aside from the greenies, anyone else planning on signing up?

If you can make the time, Watkins Glen is a MUST DO.

The track is huge in every respect, with tons of variety and elevation change. Definitely the grandest track we run on a regular basis. The place drips history. The Finger Lakes area is spectacular.

Don't worry about being a Green student. You will get just as much of a blast from this track as anyone, and it will give you more learning opportunity than sitting at home. Repeat after me....seat time, seat time , seat time.

DO IT!!

The Glen is a spectacular track. It's not the technical track that MO is, but is is a must do. And then there's the go kart track. Once again, the Porsche drivers are asked to leave and never return. Maybe the Dorki can start a new tradition.

Best regular event that Potomac does.Great history old F1s there, pictures of the drivers hanging on the walls of the local motels/bars, museum, the lake and ambience is great,Never had a good wine there, but some are drinkable, great restaurants.Don't listen to horror stories of blue armco. It is a fun track, used to be my favourite till I did Mt. Tremblant, but still love the Glen. Had a good number of zero zero students and all left with BIG s**t eating grins, which is what it all about.

[quote="APKhaos"]If you can make the time, Watkins Glen is a MUST DO.

Warning: Think twice before signing up. I drove at Watkins Glen last July. It was my first DE.

Ever since, I've been partly living only for the next time that I can go back there. For the first few weeks afterwards, while the memory was still fresh, going to work--getting through each day--was difficult. After that, it wasn't so bad, but each day waiting for the next trip there is still a small agony.

There's the Glen, and then there's everything else in life. Nothing seems to compare. I'm registered now for back-to-back events there at the end of May and beginning of June, four days worth, and though I'm almost numb with anticipation, I'm also wondering how I'll cope afterwards. Hopefully the post-Glen withdrawal won't be so difficult this time; at least not with the possibility of going back again in early July.

But after that, I just don't know, maybe I'll have to head up to Montreal....

Ah Cricket. And then there's Road Atlanta, and Road America and Laguna Seca and Infineon Raceway and....and Gary wants to know if you married your first date?

Not to belittle WG cause it's a spectacular track but there are others out there just waiting for you.

Gary and I will be there and I'll be co-driving the new, hopped up twin turbo RUF. Wonder how blue looks on Speedyellow? Wonder if I'll be alive for the return trip?

Betty, unlikely I know, but if blue meets speed yellow while you are driving the Ruf, I don't think you need to worry about the return trip!!. I think I know Garry well enough that he would be very understanding (don't I remember him trading paint with some trees at S.P some years ago). However I would not want to be on that return trip with you beating yourself up. Another good reason to go to the Glen to see the Ruf hopped up. Absolutely right, play the field, before you marry your first date, there are some great tracks out there within reasonable driving distance.Mosport and Mt Tremblant can be done in a day. How long does it take to haul a trailer to Kalifornia?? Might have an answer I hope one year.Still love to do Roebling, Road America and many, many more. Best local traveler to tracks I know is George Whitmore, still drives his car to the track with tyres on top and new wife beside him. Has been to a whole bunch of tracks.

I don't remember my first date; barely remember my first wife (and like it that way--but then I'm so much wiser now).

I don't need to drink 50 bottles of wine to know a good one when I taste it; but won't turn my nose up at the other 49 either--well not at most of them.

So, I'll happily take your advice, and will hope that the Glen is not a jealous mistress. Now, tell me how to convince my wife that we should buy a dual-slide diesel-powered RV and spend the next two years travelling the country, seeing the sites, homeschoolilng the kids and visiting every road course we can find... But maybe that's another thread altogether.

I am signing up, and I think I will be brining the clan with me (wife, three kids and nanny) since it is Fourth of July and so many people have told me that there is a lot to do in Watkens Glenn apart from the track. This will be an important trip for me since it will be the first "family" excursion. For those of you who have been before, please PM me the names of hotels that you recommend. I will need to go more upscale on this trip given its importance to the future of my hobby. All help appreciated.

I must be the only person i know that doesn't really like the Glen. I've done it twice and for some reason (not the blue) I just can't get up to speed on it. There are parts i really enjoy but other corners upset my rhythm and as a whole it just doesn't click. I need to give the track another chance and will probably do the event on the 4th though. I'm not sure if I'll instruct at that event either.

Betty, think you want to help Ahnie at the Glen?
