Anyone know of a place in the area that can re-upholster the fabric on a race bucket?
Thanks. |

This was discussed on Porsche Talk in November. I can recomend Lims Uphostery on Tyco Road in Tysons Corner for the overall quality of their work. I can not speak as to their ability to work on a race seat or the quality therein, but they do fine work on regular seats. They would be worth a call to find out.

Would you have a ball-park figure [$] > cost of reuphostery of a 911 SC seat - nothing exotic fabric..

I paid $1,200 to have my sport seats recovered at Lim's. The seating surface is leather, with leatherette on sides and back. He did an excellent job!

In a cloud of false optimism, I decided to do it myself. I already had the fabric that I wanted. I went to Target and bought a sewing machine for $120, some spare needles and 2 spools of black thread. (Didn't even use half of one.)
After I got home, I took a good long look at my Sparcos and realized there is a tension spring under the front of the seat. Once I removed that, the steel cord that tightens the fabric over the bucket got loose and I could peel off the entire cover. 4 hours later I had the passenger seat done the way I wanted. Took 2 days off and then wasted 3 more hours doing the driver's seat. Put the covers back on. Looks good. Not perfect, but good enough for a track-ho like my car. Not sure why I did it, probably just out of curiosity to see if I *could*. Knowing what a big PITA this type of job is, I'd rather install headliners than do this kind of thing ever again. It's well worth it to pay someone to waste their time doing it. I just wanted a center insert of the seat recovered so I don't think it would be up to a $1200 price tag. To have it look absolutely perfect (a 'la Ruf) I'd be willing to pay $250 for both seats. ***I'm returning the machine later today |

aaaarghhhh
I'd love to post them, but my computer is still down. (This is the exact same reason that I haven't been able to post pics from RL's pre-departure engine drop.) I'm hoping that it will be resolved by the time he returns and we can turn it into a "before and after" engine rebuild thread. As far as the seats, if you remember the last blue RUF car (996) w/ bolt-on GT2 style fenders and ducktail.... it had black Recaros w/ the center (bottom and backrest) area in b&w houndstooth fabric? That's the approximate appearance of mine. |

This is Dave .... continuing the smack from the source... here are the seats... I'd say it's decent for a Polish sweatshop job
