Wow, looked like a fun weekend despite the cold. I've forgotten how cold, "cold" really is. Hazards of desert living I guess.
I'd love to hear more stories of the weekend over beers. I'm back in town until the April 7.

It's, um, off-white, and it's Chris (Jazzbass). Good luck running into him on the track; he's too fast for me.

Had a lot of fun this weekend getting used to the new suspension. All in all, I am extremely happy with the new setup. I think the most interesting thing I learned about having a good suspension is how quickly and confidently one can get back on line after f*@!ing up.

I especially enjoyed the second session on Sunday when DD, DR, Jazz, Cliff, and I all lined up for some dicing. Most interesting moment for me this weekend was during that session when my car popped out of second gear in turn 5. Jazz was right behind me and then he was RIGHT behind me.

Thanks to DD (BlackTalon) for helping to find and install two new oil line parts that I needed in order to stay in the game for the weekend.

Congrats to Lucky for being promoted to Black!

For those running in Green group, sorry about getting terrorized by the black 997TT all weekend. The closing speed of that beast is simply phenomenal and the driver had a few weekends under his belt, too.

I took the TT out for a couple of laps on Saturday morning to show my student the line (yeah, yeah, that's it, you need to ride along for 5 laps to learn the line. All instructors do it for their Green students).

I have yet to experience acceleration like that in a street car. I exited T10 at a moderate pace, then stood on the gas. Went to 4th gear around 6k rpm, then 5th, and the car just kept gaining speed as is if we were going from 0-60. I backed off at 150 (yes, 150!!) well before the braking zone at T1. That car is just sick.

Yes, I enjoyed getting passed by him every few laps. After a while I got used to it and gave him a pass if I even saw him in the rear view. Fortunately, he left early so we were able to run the last session on Sunday unmolested - except for a 968 that should have been blue, which ended up doing a 4-off after nine on what became the last lap .

This was my first DE - I spent the first few sessions learning the lines, and once I started to get a handle on all of that it was a blast. The instructor was great.

BTW I was the silver targa number 0. The registration site said they would give you a number if you didn't have a preference, but I didn't know they would give you an out-of-class number...looks like they took the no-preference people and started numbering them from 0.

I didn't see any wildlife except for the 2 deer I almost hit on 632 on Sunday morning

Can't wait till the next event, as long as it's warm.

Sunday's cold was certainly bitter.

Unfortunately, I took 2 steps back in my driving this weekend. My instructor (and previous one as well) thought I haven't been smooth enough, and he instituded a new driving technique for me: brake, throttle, turn; but neither at the same time. I was braking 100 ft before the real braking point, gently apply gas then turn. That was so f*%@# frustrating. But I am a student and have to trust the instructor so I went along through the weekend. I don't remember passing anyone but my left arm/shoulder had a very good workout

Sunday towards the last 5-6 laps of the 2nd session, after hard braking into T1, a pronounced vibration started on the steering wheel. Cooled down the car for a lap and came into the pits, then went out again; the vibration was gone. Then, last session while solo, on the 3rd or 4th lap, again under hard braking, the vibration came back; drove at a slower pace for about 2 laps and pulled into the pits and ended the day.

All looks alright from the outside, pads/rotors etc., I am not sure what might be happening. Sure seems to be related to heat though. May be the rotor holes are filled with brake dust and it is heating and cooling non-uniformly. Any ideas?

Thanks... I think!!!

I felt like I was doing really well during the 1st session on Sunday and then that happened. It's amazing how fast things unravel when you make a boneheaded mistake. Anyway, I was really tentative during my second run but started picking it up on the last run.

Sorry to the White group for the teensy bit of dirt I spread around Turn 9. At least they warned you about it.

VaSteve - Actually KFJ and I closed down the ghetto!!!! Greenies went last.

May have lost a wheel weight or two and now have out of balance wheel(s). Look for a "shadow" of where a weight may have been, or may just need to have tires rebalanced. Had it happen to me Saturday. I lost a weight sometime Saturday and had to deal with off and on front end vibrations all day Sunday.
