I've a '77 930 turbo engine that I was/am about to install into my '73 coupe when I found the engine below. The guy wants my turbo engine and I'm wondering if I might be better off with the more liner power curve of a normally aspirated engine. Could the engine below produce 300+hp? Should I just stay with the turbo?

I'm thinking maybe I should have him meet me in Atlanta for a few test runs on a Dyno.

Here are the Spec's.
3.4 liter GT twin plug twin distributor 300+BHP drive train
Motor features custom Porsche sport of california build sheet
8000 RPM,Titanium Valves, ported intake and exhaust, pined block
corelo rods, high volume oil pump, high volume fuel pump,
Huntley air mass / fuel injection management system with center consol in dash adjustment and feedback display , 64mm throttle body, complete motronic wiring harness, 11.1 compression ratio,
930 clutch assembly, 915 close ratio posi traction 5 speed
SSI exhaust system with cross flow duel exhaust
This engine and drive train have less than 15k miles. this is a street high performance system with a aggressive idle. the motor is curently in a 930S in perfect running condition, thus can be driven to buyers aproval. selling to upgrade to higher BHP.

Any thoughts on a twin plug 11.1 comp running well on 93 octane fuel?

I think its possible, but may 300hp may be pushing if you want it streetable.

Hi Thomas:

There are many variables that affect power output; displacement, head flow, cams, compression, intake, exhaust, internal modifications and how everything was assembled.

Its possible to make 300 HP with a 3.4, but not with a single throttle Motronic system. That doesn't happen.

That said, an engine like this should have much better throttle response & drivability than a 930 motor and with close-ratio gears, would be a lot more fun to drive, IMHO of course.

Two things:

1) I would not buy ANY used motor without both a leakdown and compression test and a followup depending on the results.

2) 11:1 CR is too high for 93 octane fuel, even with twin-ignition. You'll need to either blend some unleaded race gas, or reduce that CR to 10.25:1.

Well the guy just called to say he now wants a 3.3L turbo engine to ensure he makes his 500+hp build. I'll be happy with 240hp so it's back to the '77 turbo which has an upgraded K-27 that should be great fun in a light '73.

If only the front pan replacement was as simple as the engine removal/install.

I doubt I would have considered trying any of this before finding the Dorki board where I met Jim Richards, Eric and several others.

Now seeing the light that is Dorkiphus....
