Disappointing. I posted the result at Pelican - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=113894

I think the heuristic is 10-15%

Nostatic on Pelican pointed out that if you extrapolate the HP curve out to 7200 (where redline SHOULD be) it's approaching 200 RWHP. That's more like it!

Greg,
As I predicted my cars bark IS worse than it's bite. My best pull today was 202.7 hp. While I was hoping for over 200, I really expected more.
It's a euro car with no cat, a B&B muffler, a K&N filter and a chip. Stock is 231 hp. On paper I should be making 245 with those mods. Am I being way optomistic? Anybody know what percentage of hp you lose though the drivetrain? I am runnig 9" Fuchs on the back may that can explain some.

Greg,
Sorry, I missed your earlier post. At 15% driveline loss, that would be 208 hp assuming I DO have 245hp at the fw. I guess 5hp could be the need for new plugs and the wheels.

Be glad that I did not run the 912 this time or that "award" would be mine yet again. I have many (thankfully free) hours on the dyno from the testing and tuning after the first rebuild. The recipe for my motor was written about in a 912 and a 356 book.

Another thing to check. Metric HP ratings are DIN. DIN is lower for the same amount of power produced. Check your stock ratings they might be stated in DIN. Also, there are some given losses regardless of power produced. Drive train and rolling resistance to name two. A 915 trans produces X amount of loss and you then add to that a sliding scale of loss based on motor output, then add RR losses

Most folks come away from the dyno disappointed. Few bolt on devices produce much in the way of real extra power. (Turbos and superchargers excluded) There are weaknesses in some Porsche motors that can be improved upon but the newer the system the less weakness to exploit. To get real measurable improvements in power you need to make profound changes in many things and they must be correctly planned out. Displacement, cam, valve size and lift, induction and Ex systems including heads, just to name a few.
