Chain Cover Removal Tips?
 

Anyone have a tip for removing the chain covers? Mine has a leak I tried to fix during the drop and apparantly failed. Back to work. I recall it was a PITA to remove because of the o-ring holding on tight. I think it's warped and I don't want to warp it anymore prying from the edges.

Anyone have a good tip?

Grab the lip that the engine sheetmetal bolts to with a stout pair of vise grips (pad the jaws with duct tape) and pull.

That was going to be my plan of attack this go round. :)

Did you change the gaskets when you had the engine out? If not, they will be stuck on there and you will probably need a razor blade to get all the stuff off. Be careful when retorquing these and don't death grip it.

Yeah, I changed them when the engine was out. It's leaking enough now that it couldn't possibly be fusing on there ;) I don't know whether I over or under torqued it, but it leaks worse than it did before. :oops: Oh well, that and tightening the hard oil line under the HE is going to be a nice long day project. :)

Make sure all gasket material is removed from both the chain box and the cover before reinstalling. Also, you can check for warping by smearing some oil around the gasket surface and placing it on a sheet of wax paper over a flat surface (like a counter top). Remove cover from wax paper, then you shold be able to see high/low spots if any.
