brake pads: ferodo ds1.11 vs pagid rs29 vs pfc08
so i burned through a new front set pagid rs29s in 12 sessions
no, i don't think i am braking too much, i guess if i had data from a vbox or aim i could tell, but i don't think i am it could be that i should have replaced the rotors last time too, but i did not i have been trying to find a set of ferodo ds1.11 because you know, they are all the rage right now, all the cool kids are on them! as it turns out, there are none for my car in the country right now, at least not that i can find there might be ship arriving later this week, not that helps me any so, can anyone out here contrast the difference between pfc08's and rs29's ???? |
RS29 pads have a higher initial bite where the PFC 08 has smoother initial bite. Both work in the same temp range. Both are rotor friendly and have excellent modulation and release characteristics.
The DS1.11 pad needs lots of heat to work properly, if not up to operating temp they're know to chunk material and are hard on rotors. I'd stick with the PFC pad and call it a day. Also, send a pic of the pads you just removed. 12 sessions sounds strange to me. |
Not for nothing, Otto but the cool kids are running DS 3.12s on the front now with the DS 1.11s in the rear. I got a year (forty track days) out of a set of front rotors using the DS 1.11s. Ferodo closes for the month of August so you may not see pads until October if they aren't here now.

The difference between NT01s and RE71s is not a whole lot. The NTs have a bit more grip and durability. (But not a lot of tread for driving to and fro).

I run 1.11 all around in the 981 and I'm very happy with that pad. The balance is good and the modulation is fantastic. I get a year out of rotors on that car and roughly 5-6 days on the front pads.
I run a 3.12 on the front of the Corvette and a 1.11 in the rear and I'm happy with the balance in that car now. The Corvette always needed a touch less pad in the rear for me or I'd get some lockup in the rear. The 3.12 is a great pad and it lasts longer with comparable rotor life in the C7 to the 1.11. The 1.11 was a bit better in modulation (preference), but with the extra speed, heat, and weight of the C7, the 3.12 is necessary. The 3.12 is still easy to modulate, but it feels different at full tilt and I had to get used to the pedal pressure change at the start of releasing the brakes. The lighter pedal modulation closer to apex is very similar between the two. |

I guess this’ll be considered stirring the pot a little, even though that’s not my intent - but every time I see a thread like this I wonder what everyone is talking about. I put over 1800psi through the pedal of my SPB with clean traces, and can even run with Hunt on my best days (kinda). Yet I have no idea what everyone is talking about when it comes to modulation, release characteristics, and feel. I just mash the pedal as hard as I can for the shortest possible time. What am I missing?
Btw I run Pagid blacks. They last 5 days. |
