VW board votes to ax Porsche Cayenne, Panamera
This rumor had been running around the last few weeks and now looks to be happening..

..."after production ceases in 2016..." so there are a few years left. Maybe some people will be happier with the "back to sports car roots" philosophy.

Current model line to continue till 2016. So nothing happening right away.
My guess is they'll assess actual sales over the next 2 years and how it overlaps VW's inventory. I'm betting that Panamera sales will exceed expectations. |
It could be they morph the Panemera to a true 928 GT sucessor (ie 2 door). Porsche doesn't "need" the profitablity because they are not an independant producer. They are profitable with their 2-door line up. The Cayenne and Panemera were to broaden the brand to maintain independance.
That said, the Cayenne has been a great sucess for them. I know VW doesn't "need" 3 versions (VW, Audi and PCar) but many makers take advantage of platform engineering. Some better than others. I like the idea of Porsche returning to their "roots".. |
This may be the best single thing that could come out of the whole mess.
|
I seriously doubt it... cayenne sells as many as all of the others do put together.
|
I agree, I'd love to see those monstrosities disappear. The excuse for the V8 to be a base to a prototype engine never took place so be gone with them, them both!

This whole era of substandard wanna-be crap needs to be put behind us forever with no looking back on minivans or sedans or anything related to this shameful chapter in Porsche history. Okay nothing personal, proceed. :) |
