911 sc cylinder stud removal, any tips?
 

i'm replacing finally all the gaskets of my engine, had some dificulty already with exhaust studs (3 broken ) and (fixed) ,
But i'm more concerned for the cylinder studs .
please if you have aNY tips, it is for tomorrow wednesday :vomit:

do you have any evidence of a broken stud? Don't equate exhaust studs with cylinder studs. Don't make problems until they occur. A Porsche engine has so many rattles, barfs, sputs, gurgles, clashes, chain noises and such, you can chase non problems all over the place.

If you are replacing all the gaskets I assume that means you are tearing the engine completely down. If so, I assume you are at least having lots of parts measured and checked at the machine shop. Have them replace the stubborn exhaust studs. If they dont come out with a good dose of heat, let the pro setup the head in his drill press and earn his $$.

I do that with alot of passion and time myself and not to much money :( so i thank you very much and hope to post so pictures of my baby some days.

engine runs stong with no smoke, but leaked @ bottom cylinder gasket and and headgasket.

On the cheap: You can double nut the studs and add heat w/ a propane/mapp torch and get them out. If you're not going to reuse, you can even be as barbaric as welding nuts onto them.

For alot more money: A proper collet based stud puller (still w/ heat) will be easier and not damage threads.

Sorry, I misunderstood your direction. Here are some pictures that may help. This shows the studs coming out and going back in. Use correct tools wherever possible.

the chain tensionner shows, 930+++++++ are those the oil ones? or the old ones?

If you don't have one, buy "How to rebuild & modify Porsche 911 Engines" from Pelican. Get it today, and don't go forward until you read it and have an understanding of what you are dealing with. Your questions should be answered there.

If you had to remove an two oil lines to remove the chain tensioner housings then they are oil feed. Mechanical chain tensioner have a nut on them.
