Good luck with the search thing, the one time I refused, meant sitting on the side of the road for two hours in handcuffs until a Sgt. (supervisor) showed up with some bogus papers saying they could search my car. The whole time they are laughing it up and cracking jokes, asking me what religion I am and where I'm from. After taking everything out of my car and not finding anything but a tire iron, for which the officer said to me " I thought you said you didn't have any weapons". I replied, I didn't know that equipment used to change a tire is considered a weapon, his response, "why don't I hold onto it for you". I'm sure police stations across the US have an abundance of confiscated tire irons  . All of this and they let me go without writing a ticket, or arresting me. I asked why I was in handcuffs, and the officer replied "it's standard procedure in a felony stop". |
Well Pari, looks like you kept the cops busy long enough so they couldn't stop me! That really sucks though. You should write a letter to local media. No way I'd let them get away with it. Still, I'd happily go through that for the satisfaction of making those jerks get a warrant and waste their time.

I don't know how much the local media can do, besides I think they have their hands full covering all the people getting shot and robbed in DC and PG county. Oh, and good thing I bought another tire iron which I keep in the 911. It saved my life after the drive and Dulles museum tour. I had a nail in one of my tires so I had to plug the tire on the side of the road in Gainsville :x . Have I ever mentioned how much the factory Bilstein jack sucks. |

Never thought about the cop already knowing you had a permit before he got to the car, good point. (Personally I'd prefer a big RED X on each door, the hood, the trunk, and maybe the roof but I guess that would defeat the purpose of a concealed weapon.) :( |
Don, you don't even need a permit to carry in your car in VA, as long as the gun is in plain view. Yes, you can leave it on your front seat, but not in your glove box. No need for a big red X. I just have a "Insured by SIG Sauer" bumper sticker.

I thought that only applied to long guns but doesn't the gun have to be unloaded?

Steve, I totally forgot that your new place is near there. Besides, I was just concerned with getting back on the road and getting home, it is a good thing that I carry a tire plug and patch kit with me :D .

No Don, that goes for handguns too, though a lot of cops don't know it, so you could have some problems until they are set straight by a superior.
