For the money, the Boxster and Cayman are worthy examples that do not detract at all from the image laid down by the GT3. Without the "lesser" lineup, Porsche would be like Panoz or Mosler.
As long as the lesser lineup is true to the mission (not a minivan or luxury sedan) then the legend is being maintained.

x2 -- you hit the nail on the head.
I find it funny that many people who cannot afford a new Porsche are always so quick to knock Porsche for their most recent models.
For instance, lots of people love to knock the 996s, yet the "older Porsche model crowd" (i.e., those of us who can only afford $20k cars) are starting to snap them up and really appreciate them. Sure, they're not exactly great track cars out of the box, but how many of us still drive totally stock 70s and 80s vintage p-cars? Shoot, we've all modded them -- even ones that are street-only. The fact is, many of us who can't afford new models will regularly pick up a 10 - 15 year old model, and turn it into something that does what we want.
