Stop by the local stealership or the independant import shops and start asking. Most of the best deals are quietly advertised. Don't forget to have a PPI before you buy.$100 out of pocket can save thousands down the road.
I have a friend getting ready to sell his 81SC and some kind of 944 thing. |

If you're willing to have a '92, why not a '93-'94? They're all 964's, assuming you want a 911.

My hearts desire is the 964 model, but I'm willing to spend only about 22 or 23K. Is it possible to get a good condition 964 for that amount? I would love to land a 93 or 94, but most of the cars in that range is high 20's or low 30's. I really want a coupe because I've heard how expensive it can be replacing a targa top. Also, would it be better to get one with the top end already done? I've heard about the valve guide wear, but don't know much about it. Anyway, I'm all ears to any advise or guidance concerning these concerning these automobiles.

If you send it out, a Targa top replacement is $800, so it's certainly not cost prohibitave (or one of the more expensive Porsche projects.

have fun in your search, take your time, figure out what you want, and enjoy the adventure. you may only do it once, so don't just settle for any car just because you haven't found what you are looking for. believe me, it is out there somewhere, it's your job to find it. even if it takes you looking at 50 cars, your car is out there. I just went thru this.
I know of 2 cars you should look at. Paintracer (Paul) has a Silver Carerra with black interior (Targa). There is a cherry 85 widebody Cab. Red with tan interior. Only about 65,000 miles. I had the owner down to 23K. They have only driven it 6,000 miles in the 8 years that they have had it. There is a picture of it on the thread "teach me about buying a carerra" I also had good luck looking on autotrader and cars.com. PCA (national) has a ton of cars for sale although not many local. Simply fill out the info button and the owners typically send you good info and a lot of pictures. I think a lot of those cars have been sitting for sale at high numbers just waiting to see who will bite. Also check some of the local independant shops they know a lot of owners, who are selling and also just thinking of selling.
