Default G-50 Transmission fluids / additives

I'm about due to replace the transmission fluid and have noticed a bit of difficulty in shifting to 2nd while cold. My C2 has 116K miles - any suggestions on best fluids or additives that might soothe an aging transmission?

I used Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 and I noticed slightly smother shifting going into 2nd gear.

My G50 was rebuilt less than 10k miles ago (has 175k total on it). FWIW- In the cold (like 30 degree cold), both 1st and 2nd are a little tough to go into, and shifting from 1st to 2nd produces a slight crunch. Even when warmed up, the 1st-2nd shift can sometimes make a very light crunch. All other shifts are smooth.

I thought Swepco 201 was the recommended fluid for pretty much any P-car manual transmission?

I second Mobil 1. Swepco works great for pre '87 trannies. Most of the literature including Adrian's book suggests Mobil 1.

Used SWEPCO for 10000 mi. Switched to Mobil 1 (Pelican recommendation) this last change and IMHO the G-50 shifts easier.

Don't use Swepco in a G50. It's great for 915's, but Mobil 1 is the only stuff you should use in a G50. If you want to be extra anal, throw some cheap stuff in there for a few miles, drain it and then refill with Mobil 1. I change mine at least once a year.

Redline 75W-90

Notchiness in 1st and 2nd is totally gone.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences - I will try the Mobil 1 product during my next service.

Don’t wait; a friend of mine used the not recommended “trans oil” in his 968 cab to save $30 bucks. After a year it started shifting poorly. When we changed the oil it had about a tablespoon full of bright shinny shavings. Not the usual “hair” but small pieces. Not wanting to appear to have learned anything the bonehead used the same stuff again! He told me the pieces were probably left over from the last time I had used it, though he hadn’t notice it in the pan! But like so many other dorki I check for such things after each use, and this much shiny stuff would have set off anyone’s alarms (except his of course).
