Don't know about their reputation, but their prices seem to be a bit inflated compared to buying a similar car from a private party.

If you're looking for a targa, I think there may be a "dorki" targa for sale

I have seen 2 cars that they sold as excellent condition and neither were in any way other than being shiny. Other than that I can't tell you much having never been there or dealt with them.

My buddy purchased a 993 from them. It was his first p-car and he had no clue about ppi's. The car was a consignment and the salesman did provide service history from the owner.
A few days later he noticed a sound when depressing the clutch and he was told by them to just drive the car. It was the clutch cable stretching back to normal since the car was sitting for several weeks. A few weeks later he received a call from the salesman--the guys says he "found" one service paper and mailed it to my friend. He read a note the Porsche dealer made: "need to replace clutch and flywheel soon." Well he took it to Autotherapy and was told he need a new clutch and flywheel to a tune of 3 large. Tony was the salesman (one and only) but he left to open his own dealer on Rt. 355. I think it's called Dreamcar Toy Store or something like that.

I drive by them every day. They have a great location & business concept in selling classics, muscle cars and other eye candy in a town where people can drop that kind of money on an impulse purchase. Other than that the family does have a few other car dealerships in the washington area. My take is that they are just another used car dealership, but the cars they sell are pretty cool. On my way home I can't help but look in that direction to see what's new out front. They typically always have 3-4 P cars, but I doubt any sit for too long and probably not great deals.
I also herd someone tell me that Tony has his own location up on the Pike. They have a web site and I'll find it for you whan I get a chance.

Have a friend who bought a 951 advertised as 'needing nothing'. Trusting in Cherner's reputation, he bought it w/o a PPI. Needless to say he's spent thousands repairing or replacing items that would have been caught in a good PPI.
Definitely have a PPI done on the car before buying it.

My experience with Cherner is on the sale side, as I sold them my first Boxster. The price was a little higher than what I could get at a dealer and therefore, I assume that the resale price to the consumer would be at least as high as buying from a dealer. I did not sell them my second Boxster S as they wanted to take it on consignment (not buy it directly from me) and I was able to get a much better price selling privately.
My sense is that Cherner does a superficial inspection of the cars they buy (and ultimately sell) and are more interested in outward appearance than soundness of the motor and overall condition. They do have some good looking and interesting cars, but a PPI is mandatory before buying from them.
