Default Brake Pad Question

I put pagid orange pads on hoping to use them for dual purpose (street and track). NOT!!! They squeal like a pig on the street. Going to get a set of stock pads for the off season. When I remove the pagids, should I mark them where they came from. ie. front right inner/outer, left front inner/outer. Or does it not make a difference? Thanks

Not sure it actually makes a difference, but I always have marked where they came from. Who gave you the advice that they would work for both street and track?

Mark 'em, and put each pad back where it originally was. Note that you will have to bed the pads when you install them next time. Pagids [and most track compounds] need to deposit some pad material on the rotor before they become effective.

Try to remember who told you that Pagid orange pads would work for street and track. Specifically ignore ALL advice from that source in future. If you simply thought it would be OK, then please ask here first if you are not 100% sure about something. Why the big deal? If you just happened to leave home and jump onto the Beltway one cool Fall morning, and needed to make an emergency stop, you would have discovered [the hard way] that track compound pads do not work well when cold. They NEED to be hot to work worth a damn.

Mark the pads - it does make a difference, at least it did for me. I had to remove the caliper one night, and when I put the pads back in at the end of the night I accidently swapped inner and outer on the driver's side. Went out for a test, nailed the brakes and the car pulled heavily to the right - the wear pattern for the pads was different, and there wasn't as much pad on the rotor on the left as there was on the right.

What about rotating pads around the calipers to equalise wear ? Is that OK as long as you do it in a sensible pattern, and accept that performance hit until they re-bed ?

when i reinstall my pads i split them into two groups... the 4 fattest pads are put into the front calipers, the other 4 go in the rear.

out of the "front set" i note which 2 pads are fatter than others, and those fatter pads go on the inboard side. i do the same in the rear.

my reasoning is that when you check how much pad you have left, you only see the outer pad, so i do not want to have a false impression that i have plenty left, when in fact the inner one is almost gone. so i put the thinner pad outside and know that i have enough material on the inner, regardless what happens to the outer.

from the posts above, it seems like it's not the proper thing to do, but since i haven't experienced any prononuced pad taper nor shimmy under braking, i feel that it makes sense to put more pad where you can't see it, just to be safe.

Too much work. You would have to change them so often it would be a major PITA.

I know your aversion to using oil pans to change oil and your affinity for plastic lined cardboard boxes but ... why not jack up your car remove wheel and inspect the suspension F and R, R and L before / during the DE?

Cheap insurance AND is the perfect time to look at the inner pad AND, you have a LW LH, you shouldn't be using the brakes ... much

LOL, well I used to run 97's all the time, even on the street, but now i have a great set of crappy street pads so I'm back to swapping in-n-out, so I take a peek every now and then.....

i do miss running 97's though.... not *that* noisy that you can't get used to

Didn't you find your first couple of stops in the morning a little "exciting" ?
