Default Tie rod removal tool

Does anyone have a tie rod removal tool? I'm planning on replacing the steering rack in the 964 this weekend, and it looks like this tool would make the job a lot easier....

I have several, but current thinking and experience says a “sharp rap” on the side of the joint with a BFH will loosen the end. It also doesn’t damage the boot as many times happens with the pickle wrench.

Pickle fork = bad, will tear the boot. Don't hit the top of the tie rod where the bolt is, you can deform the bolt (ask me how I know).

LOL, i was just thinking the same thing.

The best would be to try to get a tie rod puller or bearing puller that has narrow-spread arms that can "grip" the knuckle while putting pressure on the tie rod bolt.

Jim Richards and I did this less than a week a go with Marc's puller tool. Worked like a charm and I didn't even use any penetrant beforehand.

I once setup the fancy tool, my buddy grabbedd a small sledge and 1 one wack it was loose. You'd be surprised how sturdy suspension/steering parts are.

I can vouch for the BFH appraoch as well. DR had me do it on my Talon, and the ends popped right out. Of course he won't let me try it on one of his cars though...

What won me over to this method is when the pickle fork (Jazzbase ) cut into Dave’s A-arm. I’ve ripped/torn enough boots to even let Dave whack mine!!!
