Default Need Pentosin power steering fluid.

993 ps reservoir is pretty low and I'm thinking that's what's causing the terrible whining noise on hard cornering. I think Olympus may have it, but they're closed tomorrow. Anyone around here have some laying around? It's the green can with all the German writting on it. Thanks.

Scratch that. I think I need Dextron. Just red that Dextron is red and Pentosin is green. My fluid is definitely red.

Best of my knowledge, pentosin looks like thin oil as its mineral oil. MOst german cars use it for pwer steering and I've seen many that loose their pumps + becaause PO didn't use the right stuff. Double check w/ your manual as my Audi and VWs use it.

Well, I went wth Dexron, since the stuff that's already in there is red. Dexron costs 1/6 what Pentosin costs. Anyway, I added about 1 pt. of fluid and just drove about 200 miles. Did a super hard, fast U-turn and NO NOISE!!!! If my pump goes out, then I'll deal with it then. I'm just happy it's not my LSD.

I can't remember the name of the brand but there is another mineral oil that is the same as the stuff pentosin(which is a brand name) sells and goes fro about $6 per liter(?) (can't remember the specific metric size of those cans). Anyway, double check your manual. You can always do a flush (good idea anyway) later. Glad to see it was a simple fix! Gotta love that!
